Hey guys,

I'm starting to do my finance electives and I was hoping if someone whom has done these courses can shed some light as to what they are about. These are the ones I have queries about:

3626-International Corporate Governance (is this useful at all for IB?)
2643-Wealth Management (apparantly interesting)
3641-Security Analysis and Valuation (What's this?)
3630-Bank Financial Management (Theoretical?)
3650-International Banking (Heard it was easy but very theoretical)

Just want a brief idea on what these courses are about and whether they're useful. Thank in advance!

Phil

When I did BFM, it was quite easy. Just a fair bit of theory, memorisation and you're set.

Did anyone do International Banking or Wealth Management before? I'm planning on doing it next sem. How is it?

E-mail your tutor for 2624/3616, that helped me a lot.

One of my tutors also said companies know which subjects are easy/hard etc so doing going the wealth management/ICG/IB path isn't a good idea if this is ture.

Are you serious? I heard it was hard. I don't want to do a piss easy subject. I thought it would be useful?

IMM is not hard either
If Johno Reeves is your lecturer, sit back and ready to receive 80+ at least?

Cause 3640 (with T. Henker) was bullshit. Just random, structure quite flakey.

Apparently 3640 (with Reeves) isn't any better, you just redo all of 2624 again.

Electives you should do
3635 - Options, etc. (With Raymond)
3636 - Interest Rate Risk Management (With Colwell)
3775 - Research Methods 1 (With Owen)

Note: 2643 or 3630 is for wimps (or mark-sluts).

2643 is part of asic requirements moron, though ive heard that 3630 would be that of a mark slut :p

im doing 2643 now, its interesting though it is not the standard straight out maths. it has its everyday uses in a way.

Kudos on your choices! I did exactly those, as well as IMM. These courses involve the most problem solving (which isn't saying much about Finance), and closely reflects the content of the CFA program (the global ceritifcation program in finance).

I did IMM as well. Was boring, learnt nothing useful (w/ T. Henker)

Hey guys, thanks for the replies, just a question: would it be too tough to do portfolio (2624), international business finance (3616) as well as 3625 (ACF) in the same semester? I'll also be doing ACTL 2003. Cause a few tutors recommended doing 3616 in your third year instead, since it's not like it's a prerequisite for anything.

Thanks.

FINS3616 isnt hard. I reckon three finance electives and actl would be a bit much, but it's up to you.

Is anyone willing to swap a FINS2643 tute time with me?

Currently mine's at Tuesdays 12-1 but I'd like to pick up another subject that's clashing with that time.
