If 2nd is close to 1st internally then 2nd will get an internal mark close to that of 1st. So if 1st gets 100 externally (and thus internally too), then 2nd will get an internal mark close to 100.

Ok, let's say a person got 100 and topped the state. The second person in their school, got 85 for their externals. Will they be taken up? I know this is a very unlikely scenario but just wondering.

Depends on their marks at school and how the rest of the cohort goes. There are so many factors that's it's very hard to give a definite answer for a scenario.

On an un related topic realise, what do u think a raw mark of 73-76 in physics will get (doing quanta) and what would a 55-60 get me in ext 2 maths.mi was looking at the raw marks database and in 2011 54 got 85. Do u think the 2011 one was easy.

Prior to today I had a mark of 99.8, (assessment) in total for one of my subject, I got one multiple choice wrong in the half yearly, and found the HSC quite easy. I was wondering how well you would have to do to get First in State. Does the school you go to count towards marks or did I stuff up on my HSC?

Your physics mark is borderline band 6, so ~90.
