Why have friends when you have an internet connection?

I had a shitty first year because of the friend issue et al. Honestly, 90% of the people you meet at uni will be acquintances. The rest 10% you may call 'friend' for some length of time (e.g. for the duration of the semester). Probably 5% of that will be true friends, if you're lucky.

Some people claims they have a lot of friends at uni, I think most of them just have a generous definition of 'friend'.
100% True. Friends at uni are way different to friends at High school.

A phenonmena I see often at uni is people socialising enthusiatically around uni or in class, and it gives you an impression that they are really good friends and having a lot of fun, then comes next semester when I bump into one of them and ask 'hey, wassup...do you still see X, Y and Z?' a common reply would be no. And then I wonder.

So how's the friend making process going for you guys? I haven't made any new "friends" :( It's not hard to talk to new people but it's hard to talk to them frequently outside of class. I end up hanging around friends I met before uni.
its going sweet. My cohort only has 126 and i'm on speaking terms with them all and already really good friends with about a dozen or so
