How the hell is anyone supposed to afford $20,000 bucks a year to do a fee paying course unless your folks are rich, or you're a cashed up international student?

well if your that dedicated, i guess you ill somehow find a way to get hold of the cash. you pay per semester, so i figure, if you can get hold of half of it for first semester, then work during uni, you should be able to get the other half.... i don't exactly know!!

It's for the rich kiddies. As for the rest of us... there isn't much we can do. Life was never meant to be fair anyway.

Some people do manage to afford it and go for it though, so the system will remain!
I don't think it's all that bad though, if you want to get in to the course at a reasonable cost, then you just have to make sure you work hard, and you will find a way in. If people want to throw away good money for an easy ride, then whatever.

well now this is where the new uni reforms will kick in. those who are really serious about tertiary education will be able to take out a loan to pay off the education!! and good luck to them if they do decide to!!

The government recognises that the system is in trouble, but doesn't want to pay, themselves. So they think, who can we get to pay... ah, the students!
