Palladium will be an optional technology, as far as I know.
True, future systems will have hardware 'privacy' implementations, which are designed to protect the user's personal data.

It is not about piracy. (Although, it can be used to 'track' movements and such illegal activities, yes).

At this point in time, Microsoft have not designed anything that isn't optional, for example, Digital Rights Management in WMP9 and also in Office System 2003 (or Office 11, Office 2003).

DRM is optional, and can be implemented on-demand.
It won't necessarily mean that legitimate customers will be 'locked out of' their systems.

(Although WPA, Windows Product Activation can be argued against this point).

:)

Palladium is still in proposal state, but it's definately a hard crack down on counterfeiting groups, as this sub -scription based service is supposedly gonna be invading our piracy, i remember reading, whether you move houses or go inter state, once you plug in your PC and hop online, they automatically know your location, it's quite freaky,oh well... i just hope the Palladium scheme does not incur in Longhorn, because longhorn's new FS seems to be quite pleasing, and i really want to have a taste of this supposedly, re-written KERNEL from the ground up again

the thing with programming is, its not secure for ur whole life

once u are 40-50 ish and ur salary is fairly good, companies tend to replace u for younger, cheaper, and perhaps more skilled (not so much more experienced) programmers

it is at that time most lifelong programmers turn to the managerial side
Good ones do that earlier, so if you want to be well off early, and retire early (say 40-50 :)), you really need to fasttrack yourself.

Increasing technology will keep the IT business alive i suppose.

Things like:
- Voice over IP (VoIP)...
- Wirelessness and tracking/tracing people via this.
- Multi skilled programmers... especially non-processer specific languages... like java.

I suppose all industries go through slumps - but being multiskilled is important now. Look in the IT sections at the jobs being advertised... so many want you to know multiple languages and network/database (etc) stuff.

Also, you probably would know, but according to statistics, more than 70% of jobs are filled internally, or by word of mouth. Pretty much all of the good jobs are NOT advertised. Networking is essential for a healthy career in IT.

Perhaps they should migrate and look abroad for jobs.

That is easier said than done. People cannot simply pick up their bags and go. (Unless I have interpreted your post incorrectly).
Think about their community, home, family, friends, and so on.

"Bye mum! Going overseas to network, see you in a few years... love you" :p
