I love that commercial, it's hilarious. I'm not a great fan of beer, I much prefer spirits.

fuck whats with that pile of ??? encased inside rubbish bags at the bottom of the flight of stairs next to the entrance of the webster building. it's so odd. usually something like that would be cleaned up asap but it's literally been there for over a week. speaking of which, what the hell is that room that the stairs lead to? it looks like some dungeon

a lot of people only do commerce because they have nothing else to do with their 96 uai. i mean, you can't get into law, med or dentistry with it, and asian parents don't approve of shoddy courses like nutrition and wasting like a million uai points by doing engineering is frowned upon unless you're doing it with a scholorship like sir curry here... so there you go.

i would do something cool like journalism or roman history - but im not spending my immediate years after graduation in a centrelink queue.

From one spelling mistake? Good one.
See, you've proven my point. You can't even comprehend that I was talking about everything which you have written.

Did you take Discrete maths this session?

What tut were you in?

I thought the same of it, but the more I look over the work and realise I'll need stuff for compsci, I'm appreciating it a bit more.

Who keeps deleting my University of Sydney posts? Argh!

To keep this post on topic. Yeah, that Applied Science building is pretty hideous.

Ahh I had Trenerry, he was awesome, but same time slot.

Cowling was so mean :\

Yeah, I've started doing practice papers, they're not *so* bad. If you don't count recursion, I can do 50% of each question I think at least, so I should pass the exam

Please stop fuelling argument between us and people who go to Sydney. You're entitled not to like them/it, but don't bring it into this topic or we'll have more arguments like a page or two back.

yeah true >< Let's stop the flaming war with usyd. Though just one point though, I suppose Nebu was right with the research part, UNSW should place more of its funds into research...

It's weird though, how come our uni (nsw) doesn't offer subjects like dentistry, pharmacy and similar subjects like these? It would be good if our uni gets new degrees like these...

They're offering liberal arts or whatever its called, which was previously only offered by The University of Sydney. Perhaps that's a sign that they're going to be offering even more programs like that in the future.

I can't see them getting into dentistry or veternary science without massive investments in land anf facilities outside the campus though. Dentistry would be easy enough, although I'm not too sure if there's another place big enough in Sydney that would be willing to teach people to become dentists. Vetenary science on the other hand requires quite a large chunk of land and quite a vast sum of money.

UNSW should have its own aeronautical/aeronautical (space) engineering programs too, The University of Sydney offers them in Sydney, why can't UNSW divert a few funds away from ADFA and get a few of them engineers up in Kensington.

Nonetheless, if they were to get programs like that, they'd have to find the staff and build the research facilities to cater for them. I'd much rather see a few research labs popping up here and there around Sydney, funded by UNSW rather than a lacklustre degree taught by underqualified looneys.

we do have aerospace engo at unsw, just that it doesnt stand out in the uac booklet since the cut-off is 81 as opposed to 99.4 at usyd. besides, all our engo pwns usyd's engo. we dont have seperate space engo streams but offering m.biomed on hecs is pretty good...

well i think with the inevitable complete privatisation of universities in the future (like when our hypothetical children enter uni), its up every institution to convert from being a mere educational centre to a recognisable brand. unsw has the advantage of being a recognised brand in SE asia and therefore they capitalise on this by making half the uni commerce students and maximising international student places. i know that not ALL international students do commerce (hell, some do engo) but did you know that if you finish an accounting major as an international student, you get 70 pts towards getting your PR (you need 110-120 pts depending on circumstances)? compare this to doing something like social science, where you get only 40 pts.

specialist liberal arts and the like are simply not cost effective degrees to offer because they most probably wont be popular amongst international students and full-fee people. any lack of demand from hecs people means that they have to pay the government back money that was allotted for that particular course. out of the people i know, the only reason some are on full fee is because they're doing bcom/llb. offering com(lib) or econ(lib) only serves the purpose of keeping undergrads a year longer than usual, like the current combined com/econ course. i wonder if they receive extra funding from the government for offering courses that take longer, since com/sci is going to 5 years also for next year.

Though lol, since most of us people here probably have touched or completed economics in high school, we all kind of know that privatisation will probably occur for like everything...sooner or later, unless if the govt thinks that its a national priority.

Whoa...at unsw we do have aeronautical courses? Hm, the closest I saw on uac was like astronomy...and I was like, I don't want to be stuck in some far-away telescope base...
