Your reply perfectly reflects your intellect and understanding of complex social issues.

You are very very wrong. First of all not everybody can ever be happy. The most important thing for most developped countries (especially Eastern Europe) is to get away from a highly socialised society to become effective in competing with the emerging eastern economies. That is definitely not goin to make people happy in the short run. They will be very very unhappy because they will lose money and comfort, but in the long run, which they don't consider, they will be a lot better off. You actually touched on an extremly important social issue there.

When you were younger did your grandmother love giving you chocolate and spoiling you? Well mine did and still do, because they find short term enjoyment by doing it. But when it comes to voting for a politician that is going to take a bit of their comfort away (ex. working a yaar longer before retirement) away in order to ensure a better future for their grand-children they will immediately vote for a socialist government. That shows how shortsighted and selfish people actualy are.

I believe that the politician who is going to make positive change is going to be one of the most unpopular ones in the short run, look at Paul Keating for example. He saved Australia from the vicious circle most european nations are in at the moment by introducing the super-annuation fund, but was not popular at all, at least not from a general perspective. Only people who had the thoughtfulness and the ability to look at the effect his policies would have in the long run would have been supporters of his.
though you do seem to oversimplify the nature of eastern european politics.. its alot more multifactorial than placing an emphasis on a socialist govt.. tell that to the farming lobby that u want to cut one of the most unproductive industry in the Aust. economy.

with any govt there is always the possiblity of corruption in poorer nations.. and its dependent on fiscal discipline.. that doesnt actually win many votes.. so ure solution isnt 100%..
I vote left and i studied economics ..so i know why i vote left.. but it doesnt mean i need to bore my right voting friends to death.. I do it because its the best thing.. I just accept ppl can be stupid.. [labor arent wat they use to be tho.. they are wayy too factional.. but tats a whole NCAP thread..]

i mean my interests are in healthcare mainly public health + biotechnology + pharmacology and israeli-palestinian conflict not former eastern bloc nations.. i think it gets really dull.

do u really know enough about them or do they bored u? cos i think i will be the latter.. i do tho.. talk about cars, computers and other things too..
superficial mabbe but hey that or i could bore u with information about the 60+ types of HPV

ud sound like a suitable PhD candidate - "'you start a PhD knowing a little bit about everything, and finish a PhD knowing everything about nothing very much at all"

I get out a lot, don't worry about that, but since I have only been in Australia for about a year I don't know all the "slang", not that I am a big fan of using it anyway. So what were you trying to say? (in normal English please)

I have quite a big interest in European economics, because I am German and because I have a genuine interest in politics and economics. Germany is in a terrible situation at the moment. You might know this already, but here is a short and very simplified outline of the retirement fund situation for example:

The government takes a percentage of the current working population's salary each month to pay for the retirement of the currently retired population.

Because of the demographic situation in Germany (very quickly aging population) the current labour force has to pay more and more money every year in order to support he high amount of retired people. This becomes worse each year and will not be able to go on forever, especially since developments in medicine are permitting the retired population to live even longer and thus they have to be supported by the labour force longer. This is a vicious circle that Germany entered after WW2, and most other European nations as well.

The only un-radical solution to the problem is a gradual move towards an equivalent of the Australian super-annuation fund, where everybody ensures his own retirement. This system was not put in place after WW2 because the crippled population had no wealth to ensure a retirement, but it is now catching up with most socialist developed nations.

Australia is a big step ahead of Germany in this matter thanks to Paul Keating. This is just one example of the social and economic problems facing Germany and the other highly socialist nations in Europe. The greatest problem is arguably that due to the strong influence of the worker's unions the labour force of these socialist developed nations has grown accustomed to high payed labour with minimal working hours and extremely comfortable working conditions. This is becoming an issue now as eastern economies (especially Asia and also eastern Europe) have the ability to sell their labour force on the worldwide market at extremely low cost.

This is going to be very painful for developed socialist nations at first but will gradually disappear again as these eastern labour forces will themselves ask for higher wages and better working conditions. European nations are fighting this at the moment with subsidies and protective policies, but that will not last long. The Australian agricultural industry is a perfect example. Subsidising an ineffective industry is a total waste of resources, if one does not consider the social impacts.

As for my other interests I am a big fan of computers, rugby, surfing, cars, parties and extreme sports. So I am not somebody who talks about politics and society 24/7 as some people here seem to think.

Your quote about a PhD is quite similar to my signature if you think about it. The more you learn the more you realise how little you actually know. It’s not exactly that, but well kind of similar.

May I enquire as to the reason which you are insulting me for?

ok this is kind of pointless... you are sitting in front of a computer instead of getting out and involved in activities. the best way to meet a girl is to get involved in an activity that interests you, and get to know the girls that are also involved. that way you have a common interest... get to know them as a friend first... dont go in just looking for a gf... If you go in just looking for a friend you wont be disappointed. Girls can be really nervous around you if they know you are just out to start a relationship. Just take things slowly and once you get to know a girl things will start to fall into place.

Waiting can be the hard thing, but once you have someone you can talk to and have something in common with the rest will fall into place.

Just remember that no-one is perfect… until you fall in love with them :)

Honestly I find this thread hilarious.

I didn't think someone could be so incredibly self-involved and conceited. I am insulting you in the hopes that you may develop a teeny tiny bit of humour.

I mean how can you write that and not cringe at how full of cr*p you are?

I am not looking for help about how to meet girls with common interests. I don't have girl issues nor am I desperate or anything like that. But still thank you for the advice.

First of all you must have a pretty primitive sense of humour if you think that people are going to laugh when you insult them, especially at this level (fu**ing my mother). Would you please explain why I am "full of cr*p"?

And don't bother posting anything else unless it is constructive criticism. Don't bother insulting me as it has absolutely no effect apart re-confirming your obvious lack of intellect.

so.... what is this thread about currently? like to go back on topic?

"im ever so smart, its hard to find girls as smart as me"

is that what you're saying?

you want a girl with an opinion?

You're too opinionated to give room for other people's opinions as far as I'm concerned.

It's the internet, dearest. No need for intellect competitions. The internet shows no crisis for any person to shine through, to show their true colours and debate with you. Especially in a thread in love and relationships.

If you want to talk philosophy, go to the News Current Affairs and Politics forum. I and a few other people frequent it, and believe it or not, yes, there are girls.

Yes this is me being very civil, especially when you have ignored constructive posts and merely answered back those who insult you. Good work at the intellect factor.

It is swearing and swearing is not something I enjoy doing because it is a sign of a disability to express one's thoughts with a correct vocabulary. It is also a preparation for future life where swearing is a real problem with certain people, especially those who swear a lot in their youth. And it just doesn't sound nice.

Yes I agree with him, its girls like you 'kathelle' that make these threads appear. Sorry if that insults you but i'm getting sick of this thread being overrun by useless comments. I'd actually like to read peoples opinions without having to look at "Your. Mum. Me. Going. At. It. Every. Night.". If I wanted that i'd go to myspace. Now...go away.
