It's the case of the chicken and the egg really, as one defeat's the purpose of the other.

For example, software companies are forced to raise the price of their software because of piracy, then 'pirates' complain about their need to pirate because of such increases in prices. You've got the pirate on one hand who says that software should be reduced in terms of pricing, and then you've got the software companies who need to increase pricing in order to 'compensate' for the increased piracy.

It's complicated, but then again, that's life.
Software company: "We raise prices because of mass piracy"
Pirate: "We pirate because we can't afford expensive software"
Software company: "Well if you didn't pirate, we'd be making a slim profit on sales, and you'll be able to purchase software legally at a lower price"
Pirate: "Well, I'm still not going to purchase software at 50% RRP, because it's human nature to pirate. Why purchase, when I can save my money to purchase computer hardware"
Software company: "Sucks to be you, we'll increase prices now"
Pirate: "No, it sucks to be YOU, I'm going to pirate your software now..."
Software: "Pfft... we'll increase prices just to screw our legitimate customers, of which, you are not one of them!"

Fade to black
Stay tuned for the next episode :p :)

Stay tuned for the next episode
Episode 2 of "Micro$oft vs 1337 crax0r pirates" soap opera:

Micro$oft: OK you damn pirates, in our new version of Windows we have product activation so you can't steal & pirate our software!

Pirate: Meh, the reset crack is our friend. (crax0rz-1, M$-0)

Micro$oft: OK pirates, just try downloading & installing SP1 and see what happens! Take that! (crax0rz-1, M$-1)

Pirate: Oh well, we'll just have to use the corporate edition I leeched off Kazaa, with that good ol' pirated FCKGW key. Ha! (crax0rz-2, M$-1)

Micro$oft: G-d dammit! Alright we'll disable the FCKGW users from upgrading to SP1. Haha! (crax0rz-2, M$-2)

Pirate: Fine! I'll just have to use that trusty old keygen I found on that 1337 w4r3z site. Key changed, now updated to SP1. So screw you too! (crax0rz-3, M$-2)

Who will win this fiery battle, M$ or the 1337 crax0rz? Stay tuned for next week's episode.

:D :D ;)

i heard somewhere that music sales are actually benefiting in a way from pirating. apparently 80% of poeple who download music illegally end up buying the cd because they end up liking it. thats from 10 news though, so i dont know how reliable it is.

isos = bin/cue or other cd image file types (.iso, .ccd, and so on), but typically they are binary files with a cuesheet (table of contents). in rare cases they are .iso files which are also cd image files, that is the contents of a cd, in one file, ready to be written to cd (duplicated/burned).
