Back in year 8 I suggested that the class went off to lunch instead of staying in and doing speeches. The teacher started yelling "How dare you, this speech could mean the difference between you being a doctor or a toilet cleaner!" or something like that.

Oh dear.

now, they have nothing comforting to say, except, "oh, it's ok. It only contributes to 25% of your HSC"
frankly, not all that comforting! :p

Reduce it by half, then reduce it to virtually nothing, because moderation of school assessment marks will pretty much change the marks that the school sends to the Board of Studies from the ones you receive from the Board of Studies when it releases your HSC results.
