I am currently overseas and not back until 2 days before term starts. I have accepted and enrolled but was wondering if I can get my ID card on the first day of uni? Will I need the card on the first day?
Thanks :)

I believe you can but you might not get a concession card till a few weeks. Contact FM Assist just to be sure, they're pretty quiet atm. :)

Concession sticker is placed on your student id. I'm pretty sure new student cards should have it already printed on for this year.

Yep you won't need it until class tests a few weeks later.

(Just remember to keep your secondary student concession card on so you don't need to pay full price for transport until you get your ID card)

Do we apply for opal after we've applied for concession through the uni?

expired... look at the date
I meant do we use the ID card like we use opal for bus and train travels or will we get a card that looks like the opal card but for concession?

Application for Opal card is separate. You can't use your student id as an Opal card as the technology inside your student id won't have the correct details to correctly scan. Your student id can be used for access to special buildings that you have access to. For example I don't have access to Tyree on weekends and certain time periods but Mechanical students do.

Opal Card: for transport only
Student ID Card: your ID + room access card + concession card

If you get an Opal card, you will have 2 separate cards.

How long is the student id card valid for and do you need to make a new one every year?

usually 3 years.

if you lose it and get a new one it's another 3 years. Now what you do with that information is up to you ;)

Yes you have to be there in person. During o-week at the library they set up ID's for you. If not at O-week you just head to FM Assist.

would there be like massive lines if i go during o-week?
Yup :p Cause almost all first years will be doing it :p then add in some older years

They have increased the number of staff though (compared to my first year) so shouldnt be too long

I still think going to get your student id before O-Week is best.

You need your student number and a photo ID (passport or license) to confirm you are the person with student number _________
