Hey guys. I am thinking of spending some of my free time to pursue my passion - learning a foreign language.

I have 4 languages in mind: Japanese, German, French and Spanish...However, I am not completely sure.

What would be the easiest language to learn?

THat's because I don't want to pressure myself too much...

Thank you!

no language is easy to learn. choose whichever you think interests you or may help in the future. you have to be very dedicated especially if you are planning to teach yourself

Hm, ye. I agree. My question was little bit stupid then.

Then here is another question...

what language out of the 4 languages that I put above is the most widely used?

Ohh, thanks!!!

Yeah I agree. But I just wanted to see...haha

I will look through some books and stuff to see which language suits me better :) Thanks again

EDIT: Sorry for another question, which language out of German/French is more related to English in terms of its grammar, vocab and etc?
From what I hear German is one of the easiest languages to learn, but it is definately a lot of work. And I'm pretty sure Spanish is more widely used than French
Edit: according to this French is the least widely used of the four

Hahaha, I think the definition of "widely used" from your website is according to the number of people who speak the language whereas 08er provided the statistics on the number of countries that speak the language...(or something like that)

apparently the easiest language to learn is one you have a basis in, not necessarily a grammatical basis or what have you but if you Spanish, learning Spanish will be easiest, if your German, German, Japanese, Japanese etc etc

but also a good idea to keep in mind is how many other languages do you want to learn?
personally i want to speak seven. learning french has helped me with my spanish and ditto for german but boy did i have a hard time when i started to try and learn arabic haha.
have you decided yet?

oh and EDIT: french is the most common second language, i believe.
french and german are more similar to each other than they are to english, german is easier because its more 'common' with verbs and things.
both are amazing
german has the most interesting words! german literature is the best to read, they have the most specific and interesting words.
i prerfer french though :)

hahahha

I don't want to learn 7...it would be too hectic. I am going for a good number of 3-4. I have already got 2 languages that I can quite fluently.

And ye, I agree. The difficulty of learning a language depends on what you are more naturally "inclined" to. I am really interested in French and German however.

Thanks for the information btw

ive heard after the first five you can pick up new languages in a matter of weeks :)

go with french, its funner to learn. purely based on accent. more resources to i would say, and still recognized as 'relevant' because its an international language.
goodluck :)

japanese is shit hard to learn btw...from what i hear.
As someone already mentioned...it's all about individuals.

The reason why Japanese seems very difficult for Australians is because of the grammar and the lack of connection that English holds in respect to Japanese.

For someone like me who speaks Korean and English fluently, Japanese doesn't hold much challenge because Korean grammar = basically same as Japanese grammar.

But I still haven't chosen what to do :(

so how are you planning to learn another language? through books, websites, or in classrooms?

well like I did with English back in Korea.

Once I choose what I am going to learn, I will start off with learning grammar and structuring sentences. Vocab can be improved by learning like 20 words a day or so :)

accent is another problem though... :(

Um...what's your point?

I am able to communicate, write and understand English quite competently. Of course, there are some areas where I need to put some attention towards but at the moment, it's decent.
