Hi guys, (I have just finished my HSC - class of 2024)
So I've decided to do B/Medical Science solely as a pathway to post-grad medicine (or undergrad via schemes such as the 'Lateral Entry Scheme' at UNSW if possible). I have received early entry into med-sci from UTS, Macquarie, Newcastle, and ACU. - Which one is better? (I'm mainly looking at UTS or Maq uni). My ultimate goal if I choose to do med-sci is to do it at USYD or UNSW but seeing as they do not offer early entry or SRS, I'm looking for backups.
I understand that Maq uni also offers B/Clinical Science which includes a built-in GAMSAT prep course, but of the two (UTS and/or Maq uni), which one has the better course in terms such as:
- General peer competition (i.e I heard UNSW is very competitive and I was wondering if that is for med sci in all unis)
- Resources/facilities
- Teaching and support
- Success rate/estimate number of students transitioning into med
- General uni reputation
Please keep in mind that I am purely choosing B/Med Sci as a pathway to medicine. I am also not concerned about the ATAR requirement. I have a solid backup plan and course which I have secured.
Thank you.
*Sidenote
Some of you may ask why I am choosing this longer pathway to medicine instead of just taking the UCAT and doing the undergrad courses. Reason is, my Year 12 subjects weren't exactly geared towards medicine (i had the mindset of doing law - I did do 2 science subjects though, so my STEM subjects are strong). Thus, I didn't take the UCAT and I do not intend on taking a gap/break year. If anyone can clarify, Is it possible to take the UCAT in my first or second year of any uni course? And if I do score well, am I able to transition to any undergrad med course?
Also, please don't bother with the 'its long, tiring and hard' - I am willing and determined to take the challenge.
