EDIT: what would you suggest as better headphones? I've tried some Shure ones and I thought for the extra $150 + from the CX300, they weren't really that great.
Hmm - it really depends on your budget and the type of headphones you're after.

Imo, if you're spending ~$200 range then you can't beat the Audio Technica AD700s. One price bracket down I'd get the Alessandro MS-1. One more price bracket down I'd go with the Grado SR60s (they're hard to find though).

As for in-ears the best ones to get, imo, are the Sennheiser IE8s (close to $400 though). If you're not shitting money then go with Shure SE210s? or perhaps the equivilant Ultimate Ears offering. I'm not sure about in ear headphones myself.

Earbuds = Yuin PK3

Clips = Koss KSC75

Should be able to grab all bar the Grado SR60 from Headphonic | Australian Headphone Specialists: Buy Etymotic, Alessandro, Audio Technica, Ultimate Ears, Talisman, Meier Audio and more
Though it's probably cheaper to find a reliable seller on ebay.

Remember to have a high quality source that can really make the more expensive headphones sound their very best.

Repped on informed post, too many people spout shit they clearly know nothing about on here.

IMO he ought to stay away from the AT-ADs and anything grado/alessandro related, the latter leak sound like a motherfucker and are incredibly uncomfortable out of the box, the ADs leak sound but they're really tacky and look pretty homo if you're sporting them out and about.

Stick to in-ear canals or earbuds if you're on the go, it's sort of a delicate process, chances are if he didn't notice the difference between the shures and the cx300s, he's better off with the sennheisers, no point spurlging if there's no subjective benefit.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't wear those out and about, they fail in terms of portability & style. Sound quality wise they pwn, there's nothing at those price points that sound better (afaik).

Yeah, if I were him I would get the Yuin PK3s if he's just after something for his ipod or mp3 player.
