No, check your koujien. Gaijin's primary meaning is still "foreigner". What you are talking about is colloquial Japanese meaning, not standard meaning.

It's a colloquial form of owatte sugimashita, and should have been owatchatta.

Basically, it was short one mora (syllabic unit), the small tsu which doubles the consonant in "cha". Takuya was excessively nitpicking.

Anyway, we're arguing a higher cause now

It's owatteshimatta... I wasn't laughing about the Romaji spelling. I couldn't tell the difference because Romaji is bogus.

yup u would.. in japan, ppl can often see a difference between other foreigners, except for SOME filipinas/filipinos (but moreso the girls..) who would definitely pass as japanese...
