How many textbooks for each subject are each of you getting? I was thinking of getting extra textbooks (besides the ones my school gives me) and I was wondering if it really is worth it to spend all that money.

It depends on the subject.
For english it's nothing extra
For modern i just brought the HTA book.
For 3U maths i have the Jones & Couchman text book and my tutor ^^
For 4U maths it's excel, extra stuff my teacher gives me and my tutor :D
For extension history it's completely what my teacher gives me (there's heaps)
For Physics it's Creelman HSC Exam Questions and excel.
For Chem it's Excel

And for all of the above i have Success One for every subject possible and the excel pocket forumla book for ever subject possible.

I reckon that's more than enough. Most of them are 2nd hand or are pretty cheap so i didn't spend that much on them. They do help though because i like to do questions from random books ^^

Don't spend too much though, i know heaps of people who had a whole collection and never use most of them.

There are so many threads on this topic. Use a search function where necessary.

But to stay on topic for now:

  • 5 textbooks and 7 study guides for bio
  • 3 textbooks and 2 study guides for business
  • 20+ for 2 unit study + textbook
  • 10+ for 3 unit study + textbook
  • 10+ for 4 unit study + textbook
  • heaps more for english (all study guides)
  • 2000+ worth of pages for cosmology, ahh!!
  • 4+ for sor (study + textbook)
And still looking for more...

OH wait, my table is a bit flawed as I gave some books out for free...so minus 1 or two from each section will do.

Yeah, the amount of the stuff sent through mail (in CD) is absolutely overwhelming. :(

I can swear to God that more than half of them are just plays on words. :(

However, the overall topic is very fascinating. I guess I will start reading them soon (starting with "What is Cosmology?")

I hardly use my bio "study guides". I just got all the new ones for free somehow...haha (about 4 of them for free).

Same story with my business studies.

I only use 3 textbooks for bio (jacaranda, heinemann, oxford) and 2 for business (business textbook, leading edge)

For maths, I use all.

Ok, so i don't need that many text books to get an awesome UAI ^^

My teachers give me heaps of independent papers from other schools anyway :D

umm, there is only ONE physics textbook which is workable... that's jacaranda and even so you MUST have the skills to sort through the rubbish...

and ya past papers are available like everywhere, just ask around.

EDIT: also, eng, self study ftw without textbooks. use your friends

@ All - Past papers are awesome.

For Physics, use Creelman. It's past HSC questions sorted into modules :D :D :D

And i believe there's Creelman for a few other subjects (which i'll get ASAP) like Chem and 3U maths ^^

maths cambridge hands down, but it is good to supplement with easier textbooks to understand concepts first.

english...there aren't really textbooks...you might want to get study guides?

phys jacaranda, with DOT POINT to supplement...
