Paris Hilton walks free from LA jail
Huge contigent of media camped outside
In pictures: Paris's jail journey

PARIS Hilton has walked out of a Los Angeles prison sparking a tremendous frenzy among the assembled media and onlookers.

The blonde heiress and reality TV star stepped out of the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, into a scrum of cameras.

She smiled demurely before running to the arms of her mother mother Kathy Hilton and being driven away in black 4WD.

She made no statement.

Hilton was jailed for violating probation over her conviction for alcohol-related reckless driving and served 23-days after a judge overruled her early release into home detention.

A huge contingent of media has camped outside the jail has been Hilton's home while satellite television vans were seen in the streets surrounding her house in the Hollywood Hills.

In a surreal twist, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) revealed that inspectors would be on site both at Hilton's home and at the prison to monitor the antics of television news helicopters.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor told AFP that while it had no power to act over noise levels caused by buzzing choppers, inspectors would be studying whether any safety regulations had been violated.

"For example, if a helicopter is flying at or below tree-top level in a built-up area, that could be a violation," Gregor said.

A squadron of helicopters hovered overhead when Hilton was escorted from her home back to prison on June 8 following her controversial release from jail after only a few days behind bars.

Hundreds of paparazzi gathered outside her home on that occasion, swarming around a police car as Hilton was led away in tears.

In an attempt to prevent similar scenes tomorrow, city authorities have declared temporary no-parking zones near Hilton's home.

The restrictions came as the Los Angeles Times reported today that residents in Hilton's exclusive enclave had distributed leaflets protesting the socialite's presence in their midst.

"Dear Neighbour, since the arrival of Paris Hilton to our neighbourhood, we've seen our quality of life deteriorate," the leaflet reads.

"We feel we need to take a united stand. The circus will resume next week when she gets out of jail."

Neighbours have complained that as well as the habitual presence of paparazzi, Hilton's home has also hosted wild parties that have shattered the calm of the area.

"We shouldn't have to absorb all of this because of one person. Why must we put up with all her baggage?" Selby Segall, 75, told the Times.

Reports today quoted Hilton's family and friends as saying that a "quiet gathering" was being planned for the socialite's release, playing down speculation of a lavish bash in Las Vegas.

A spokeswoman for the Hilton family said the socialite "can't wait to take that orange suit off".

"Paris is doing really well, she is really looking forward to going home, and she thanks you in the press who supported her," she said. "She wants to be with the family and she can't wait to take that orange suit off."

Hilton's first post-prison interview will be held with veteran CNN anchor Larry King on Wednesday.

The network and a spokesman for Hilton said the 26-year-old would not receive payment for the interview.

In a statement released through her publicist, Hilton said she was pleased to be telling her side of the story on King's show.

"I am thrilled that Larry King has asked me to appear on his program to discuss my experience in jail, what I have learned, how I have grown and anything else he wants to talk about," she said.

Paris Hilton released from jail

http://www.smh.com.au/news/people/paris-hilton-released-from-jail/2007/06/26/1182623896132.html

Hotel heiress Paris Hilton, who commanded as much attention behind bars as on the Hollywood party scene, regained her freedom today after serving three weeks in jail for violating probation in a drink-driving case.

The incarceration of the 26-year-old multimillionaire, who has lampooned her own persona as a clueless child of privilege on the reality TV show The Simple Life, ignited a worldwide media frenzy and debate about celebrity justice.

Hilton was released after 22 days in detention, including a day she spent under house arrest. The original 45-day sentence set by the judge was effectively cut in half under a standard credit applied for good behaviour.

Hilton was released from jail about 12.15am (5.15pm AEST) and walked alone down a walkway lined with photographers.

tht spoilt brat. she whinges too much. she's just worried bout her reputation being tarnished. now tht some of these morning news crews are rejecting interviews from her, she's most likely gonna complain that they're not being fair to her.

it's not fair that celebrities get a different sentence.

why should she get leway because she had sex with the policeman who charged her and the guard in gaol?!

Yeah, she was strutting out of jail like anything. but if that's her without makeup (which is quite likely), she really isn't too bad looking. maybe a whole lot more haggard looking, but certainly not ugly or plain. I can't believe her parents treat her to an interview and an after jail party! as though it's everyone else's but her fault she was jailed! what a pretty family, honestly.

I think she looks beautiful in her Larry King live interview. No wonder she is every man's dream girl.
