Asking this because I go to a decently ranked public school (hey, less than 200 is decent right?) and nobody from my school has ever made it into any medicine programs, and nor do I think anyone will this year (there's only 5 of us doing the UMAT and we're all failing miserable, like 30-50 percentiles). I know it's possible to get anywhere from any school, but I have this theory that parents from the eastern suburbs (and the types to send their kids to private/selective schools) tend to be the type that are more "value-added" parents - e.g. give their kid puzzles when their young, enrol them in different clubs, get them to volunteer, get them to play instruments and make them listen to Mozart (ok maybe not that far ).
Also, a semi-related question: what is the general admission rate of medicine like? I've heard about 16% but even that seems too generous an estimate lol.
