No, I'd say that of the people who are out-spoken most are leftists both economically and socially. People who work don't have time to hand out shitty leaflets and don't expect the government to pay for everything either.

I'm not talking about the retarded outspoken minority, I'm talking about the silent majority. The vast majority of them ARE centrist or right of centre (only economically).
No, I'm pretty sure you're wrong. As has been said the majority of students (and graduates for that matter) are generally slightly left of centre both socially and economically.

Students get swept up by social idealism, only to realise once in the workforce, that such idealism amounts to nothing.

Those who remain behind dwell on their idealism and the views of the way the world should be.

Yeah, and I suppose you're going to tell me Barack Obama is leftwing, too?

Honestly, half the people here can't tell the difference between centre-right and centre-left, so why should they give any credence to your claim?

Most of the wanna be socialists grow out of it by their late 20's in any case.

Centre-right, like most of the Democrat party.
how is that?
During the campaign he has sometimes moved to the right to win over undecided voters, but looking at his policies now, he's pretty left wing.

I mean, look at his tax plans...
It's gotten the cons calling him a socialist..

Only TREFOIL can generally gauge the political views of 100 000+ people.

Not really. It's obviously hard to gauge a person's political stance without actually having access to them, but thankfully in the case of politicians, there's plenty of previous data to go by:

http://www.politicalcompass.org/uselection2008

You can see where Hillary and McCain stand, for reference.

Now you might disagree somewhat with the above, but personally I believe you're making the mistake of comparing Obama, centre-right, with the Republicans, who are far-right. Of course he's going to seem more left-wing if you do that.

I mean, look at his tax plans...
You mean the one were he makes Bush's middle class tax cuts permanent and increases the tax on the top income bracket from 36% to 39%? Well, shit.

It's gotten the cons calling him a socialist..
Well, it must be true then.

*shrug* you can't fault me for observing that people generally assign political labels in a subjective manner, not relative to any actual standards.

politically, i'm slightly apathetic.... though tending towards labor

or a dictatorship.
provided, of course, that either my friend jesse or i are the dictator!!
a dual power-hold would be fine by me. ^_^
