Most men seem to be pretty clueless about what women want and what is attractive to them. So I thought it'd be nice if women could help these guys out. I would like to invite WOMEN ONLY to take part in a short survey created for this purpose.

You can find the poll here:

http://www.opinionpower.com/Surveys/543038580.html

It should only take a few minutes to complete.

Thats because women themselves dont know what the want, or rather some women know what they want, most dont and everyone of them wants something different.

So dont model yourself on what women want, just be yourself and hopefully you will come accross one who likes you for who you are

A certain amount of self-confidence, (stopping short of being a prick) is a *huge* positive. It wasn't directly mentioned anywhere in your poll.

As for "I would not want a man to change for me nor should he want me to change for him. I want him to be himself and I would want him to love me for myself."

No-one, male or female, is perfect. I'd think that some compromise/flexibility on some issues would be needed - people change by themselves, too. More like, 'gentle nudging' than trying to 'fix' either party.

As for "I want a man who is open and honest and who will tell me things like it is. I would not like him to sugarcoat anything or to lie- I want the truth, even if it will hurt me."

If it is possible to tell a painful truth in a way that will not hurt so much, that would be better. Like, "Sorry, I just wanna be friends, cos we're too different - we'd tear each other apart if we dated." Softening the blow, but not trying to make things seem better than they are.

"It’s important to me that the man I am with or that a man I am interested in has the same religious and political beliefs as I do." - it would help. It would also help if the beliefs weren't totally opposite, or if there was a mutual respect.

"A man needs to be a gentleman. He should have good manners and be chivalrous." - But don't treat her like she's fragile, or too much of a trophy.

Better idea would be to have us answer the questions here for more immediate results for the 'clueless' guys, I'll start.

1. I want a man who has an active social life outside of me. I would not mind if he sometimes didn’t have time for me.
I disagree
2. I want a man who will provide for me and take care of me. I do not want to be the breadwinner.
I agree
3. It is important to me that the man I am with makes an effort to keep the romance in our relationship.
I agree
4. I want a man who values my opinions and what I have to say. I want him to take me seriously and trust me to make important decisions.
I agree
5. I would not want a man to change for me nor should he want me to change for him. I want him to be himself and I would want him to love me for myself.
Kinda, he should change for me and he should love me for who I am. :p
6. I want a man who is open and honest and who will tell me things like it is. I would not like him to sugarcoat anything or to lie- I want the truth, even if it will hurt me.
I agree
7. It’s important to me that the man I am with or that a man I am interested in has the same religious and political beliefs as I do.
Religious - yes, political - no
8. A man needs to be a gentleman. He should have good manners and be chivalrous.
I agree
9. It is important that the man I am with takes good care if himself. I would want him to maintain a healthy weight and keep himself well-groomed. If he is sick, I would not want him to throw a fit about seeing a doctor.
I agree
10. The best kind of man...
is attractive
is good in bed
has lots of money and a stable career
has not had many or any sexual experiences with other women
wants children
is religious (assume this to mean he shares your religion or a similar religion as you do)
is intelligent and well educated
can easily talk about his feelings
treats me with respect and courtesy
would be my friend as well as my lover
(basically check all choices)

PS. I'm pretty demanding, I think

PPS. Yes, I am pretty bored today. thanx.

Why?

It's survival of the fittest, and in this case the rich are the fittest, and you get eaten.

Realistically...

1. I want a man who has an active social life outside of me. I would not mind if he sometimes didn’t have time for me.
I don't mind if he has boys nights. But he's not allowed to be booked for three weeks straight.

2. I want a man who will provide for me and take care of me. I do not want to be the breadwinner.
I think equal parts is a good idea. It's just easier if both people work. Although in the far future, I don't expect husband to take time off to care for kids.

3. It is important to me that the man I am with makes an effort to keep the romance in our relationship.
Romance is nice sometimes, it gets him points, but most of it is corny and I'd rather not.

4. I want a man who values my opinions and what I have to say. I want him to take me seriously and trust me to make important decisions.
Yeah. I'd think important decisions would be a combined effort, though.

5. I would not want a man to change for me nor should he want me to change for him. I want him to be himself and I would want him to love me for myself.
What shits me is that heaps of girls expect guys to change, but somehow love the girl for everything she is. It works both ways, both people have to make allowances, sometimes both people have to change.

6. I want a man who is open and honest and who will tell me things like it is. I would not like him to sugarcoat anything or to lie- I want the truth, even if it will hurt me.
The truth will come out eventually. Just get it over with, lying makes it worse in the end.

7. It’s important to me that the man I am with or that a man I am interested in has the same religious and political beliefs as I do.
I could not have a religious boyfriend. It just wouldnt work. I don't really care about politics that much, as long as he's not a crazy socialist I don't mind.

8. A man needs to be a gentleman. He should have good manners and be chivalrous.
Good manners, in front of parents yes. I don't care if he burps. I burp. Chivalry is romantic and all, but I can move my own seat, thankyou.

9. It is important that the man I am with takes good care if himself. I would want him to maintain a healthy weight and keep himself well-groomed. If he is sick, I would not want him to throw a fit about seeing a doctor.
Grooming is not all that important to me. My bf has a beard and a ponytail from laziness in the grooming area. As long as his hair is clean and he doesnt smell I don't care. He also doesnt run the risk of getting fat anytime soon, and he never gets sick. He's like a cactus, doesnt need much care.

10. The best kind of man...

is attractive (ie is not ugly. doesnt have to be perfect)
is good in bed (not essential, a bonus)
has a stable career (so he's not mooching off me)
has not had many or any sexual experiences with other women (no man-whores. they're UNCLEAN)
wants children (eventually. not tomorrow or anything)
is not religious (would not work)
is intelligent and well educated (couldnt date anyone dumber than me)
can easily talk about his feelings (read: doesnt bottle them up, then hit me)
treats me with respect and courtesy (treats me like a human being)
would be my friend as well as my lover (if you're not friends then they're essentially fuck buddies then, right?)

this is 2006, and john darcy is fictional. ladies have to deal with it.

Right......let me see if I am able to answer this

1. I want a man who has an active social life outside of me. I would not mind if he sometimes didn’t have time for me.
That depends. I mean he might be cheating. But it doesn't worry me.
2. I want a man who will provide for me and take care of me. I do not want to be the breadwinner.
No way, I'm independent.
3. It is important to me that the man I am with makes an effort to keep the romance in our relationship.
Oh yeah, thats right.
4. I want a man who values my opinions and what I have to say. I want him to take me seriously and trust me to make important decisions.
I'll agree with that.
5. I would not want a man to change for me nor should he want me to change for him. I want him to be himself and I would want him to love me for myself.
No, i definately don't want a control freak.
6. I want a man who is open and honest and who will tell me things like it is. I would not like him to sugarcoat anything or to lie- I want the truth, even if it will hurt me.
Honesty is good.
7. It’s important to me that the man I am with or that a man I am interested in has the same religious and political beliefs as I do.
No that would make conversations at the dinner table so boring.
8. A man needs to be a gentleman. He should have good manners and be chivalrous.
Yes indeed.
9. It is important that the man I am with takes good care if himself. I would want him to maintain a healthy weight and keep himself well-groomed. If he is sick, I would not want him to throw a fit about seeing a doctor.
I agree.
10. The best kind of man...
someone like or similiar to that of Fitzwilliam Darcy or John Thornton and yes i'm well aware that they're only fictional characters.

1. I want a man who has an active social life outside of me. I would not mind if he sometimes didn’t have time for me.
"sometimes" is ok, because I'm like that too. But "frequently", "regularly" or "constantly" are totally unacceptable :p

2. I want a man who will provide for me and take care of me. I do not want to be the breadwinner.
Hmm agreed here... naturally I don't want to be at the mercy of his salary though!

3. It is important to me that the man I am with makes an effort to keep the romance in our relationship.
agreed

4. I want a man who values my opinions and what I have to say. I want him to take me seriously and trust me to make important decisions.
agreed

5. I would not want a man to change for me nor should he want me to change for him. I want him to be himself and I would want him to love me for myself.
I'm saying "agree" here, but I'm going to clarify this by mentioning that sometimes, compromises have to be made (from both sides), and people have to learn to be able to understand why their partner thinks the way they do sometimes (rather than just saying "oh that's stupid" and breaking up with them).

6. I want a man who is open and honest and who will tell me things like it is. I would not like him to sugarcoat anything or to lie- I want the truth, even if it will hurt me.
I disagree. If you are going to tell me that you already have three children and 2 other girls on the side, then yes tell it to me straight. However if you are going to critique my cooking or any other area in which I'm not crash hot, then please do so with as much tact as possible:p

7. It’s important to me that the man I am with or that a man I am interested in has the same religious and political beliefs as I do.
Disagree, provided it doesn't negatively affect the relationship in any way/he doesn't try to convert me and knows when to stop talking about it when I'm really not interested. Another proviso - that his family and friends do not try to convert me either :S

8. A man needs to be a gentleman. He should have good manners and be chivalrous.
Yes please!

9. It is important that the man I am with takes good care if himself. I would want him to maintain a healthy weight and keep himself well-groomed. If he is sick, I would not want him to throw a fit about seeing a doctor.
If I have to do it, then he bloody has to do it as well :p

the thing is, what women think they want, and what they actually want may be different. same for guys - we may say we want X, but really even if X is occurring, we actually want Y to happen.

Mmmm true

Although I think that the girls are being honest here

It's in real life where they say something doesn't matter to them (but it in fact really really does) where you boys get into trouble :p

I think Stas is trying to tell us something.
