Nope, it's not an "office-situation".
I just have a LAN at home, and two other brothers who each have their own computers and do it up themselves etc, so you could take it as sibling rivalry :)

It's really a study, but filled with computers and cables are going around the skirting boards, so we hook up computers in bus topology with a main switch and firewall/gateway machine (which is actually my brother's main computer) to which all data arrives and via NAT we connect to Telstra (BigPond Broadband) cable.

I have receipts and boxes in the garage!!! :)

This was my last purchase/upgrade:

Intel Pentium 4 2.40GHz CPU - S478, 512kb, 800MHz, HT
Intel Pentium 4 2.40GHz CPU - S478, 512kb, 800MHz, HT

Northwood chips, HyperThreading, 800MHz FSB

Abit IC7: i875P, 800MHz FSB, 4xDDR400(2x), ATA/100, SATA/150, AGP 8X, 5.1 Sound, USB 2.0, ATX
Abit IC7: i875P, 800MHz FSB, 4xDDR400(2x), ATA/100, SATA/150, AGP 8X, 5.1 Sound, USB 2.0, ATX

Supports HyperThreading, dual channel DDR, AGP 8x (but I don't own an 8x card), onboard 5.1 sound.

Kingmax 512Mb 400MHz TinyBGA DDR RAM
Kingmax 512Mb 400MHz TinyBGA DDR RAM
Kingmax 512Mb 400MHz TinyBGA DDR RAM
Kingmax 512Mb 400MHz TinyBGA DDR RAM

Speaks for itself here, I once had 4x512MB in the 1 computer while waiting for more stock, LOL... 2GB dual channel DDR400, maxed out the entire memory banks (if only I had 1GB DIMMs :-\)

Antec "Sonata" Black ATX Medi-tower Case w/ True380w PSU
Antec 380 Watt "TruePower" Twin-Fan Low-Noise Power Supply

See? :)
Both 2.4C CPU's are now overclocked to 3.3GHz each (275*12), added new heatsink/fan's to them, although the stock hsf was alright, I wanted it to be cooler :p

Cooler cpu's at 20C to 36C and couple that with an Antec Sonata - "the quietest pc in the world" apparently -- only 1x 120mm fan in there, operates very quietly (unless there is 'major' hard disk activity) :)

I don't have the online tracking for my other parts, but I've got all the invoices and receipts in my drawer for the drives, hard disks and other parts ;)

LOL!!! You know it...

Before *this* (current) PC, I had pretty crappy specs, I'll post:

1997-2000, for a good ~4 years I had been using:

PII 350MHz
Abit BX440 something or other
192MB PC133 RAM, 128MB + 64MB DIMM
TNT2 32MB graphics
Creative SB Vibra soundcard
20GB Seagate 7200rpm Hard disk
IntelliMouse Optical, Honeywell Euroboard (same one)
15" Proview CRT (!!!)
Aopen case
2x Intel 10/100 PRO NIC

Life wasn't all that great then, since my older brother (at the time) was running a P3 550MHz (it was good at the time 98-99 period ;))

I really hated my sound card and monitor though, the sound would crackle, the monitor would strain my eyes, and the games were crappy because of the video card, but I did run Windows 98SE, until I ran 2000 in '99 to '01 or so, (as Winston has noted, DEVILS0WN rls of Windows XP leaked in about August or so, RTM. With the official launch on October 25th, 2001).

I've got a UNSW Corporate Edition of Windows XP Pro though... heheh, same with Ghost, NAV Corp and other cool niceities :) :)

I've always envied the HP/Compaq (even Acer!!) PC designs, for the 'style' though. But I know the specs aren't all that great when you're buying pre-built or OEM computers, unless of course, you choose the parts yourself and off you go.

Yeah I hope to be given $3000 so I can build mine before uni. My parents were about to let me do it, but then they decided that we're going overseas this summer.

And they're giving me a laptop when I move out next february anyway.

I haven't ever been overseas, so that's probably why I can spend 'a little' more on my PC over others. You can see the world for yourself, and I have to rely on Encarta's 360 degree views and virtual reality/pictures :D (LOL)

I wish my parents would get me a laptop for next year, in particular the PowerBook G4 Mac's :D

My favourite website for drooling :p ;)
Ohh.. if only I had an (iBook) PowerBook/G4 12" or 15".

I haven't worked a day in my life... LOL
(Okay, so I'm a bludger who only studies and does his homework).

My older brother gives me his second-hand "used" parts, after he upgrades, LOL so that's where most of my stuff comes from.

"Hand me downs" if you will, I get his old stuff when he gets better stuff, and my old stuff goes to my little brother, LOL. It's a chain....

But I do purchase my own hardware from savings (believe me, I'm not rich and I have to save for a long time before I get any "hundreds of dollars" to purchase).

I only got the 17" LCD from my mum because I turned 18, and I have been needing a new monitor for a while now (been using a 15" CRT for about 8 years).

I want to work for my money, but my parents wont allow it (asian parents :chainsaw: LOL!!)

But I'm not spoilt, I do work hard at school and all the rest to get what I ask for, if I'm allowed -- but I don't say "I want a new ________ right now, gimme gimme".

:)

/edit
Hey Merethrond, we *almost* have the same subjects! 10 units in common, that's pretty close... I haven't found anyone who does the same subjects as me 'exactly' though.
