my half yearlies:

(mark , rank)
english adv: 72% , ~10/~100
english ext1: 58% , ~10/~30
english ext2: 68% , ~15/~20
chemistry: 96% , 1/~100
physics: 99% , 1/~100
maths ext 1: 96%, 1/~120
maths ext 2: 94%, 1/~50

I go to sefton high which is like ranked 50ish (mebe cos the class of 03 from our school were unusually stupid :D) and I think im pretty much duxing my grade. I dunno what uai ill be aiming for... what is within my reach currently?

Ahh so you're THAT kid :p
The one everyone talks about jumping from abject mediocrity to gettin perfect in 4u maths :D
....

The quiet one. :p

If I may venture a guess... (have close to identical subjects as fields for SAM for me :D) 99.8?
Somewhere 'round there. Gees guess 100.05 is gonna be a bit harder than I thought...

Now to get your marks but to top 4 units of english... arrgh...

i agree with your sig there.:p

i think you'll be looking at 99.xx with those marks quite easily.
you should have just done 10 units! no ext1 or 2 english.

actually i heard from my year advisor (a year ago), that 2 units of english must count, but it doesnt mean that they count ENG ADV 2 unit, they can use 1 unit from your 2unit Eng ADV and 1 unit form ext1 Eng, so maybe they will use his ext1 and ext2 eng mark and not his Eng ADV..

yep that is correct, they take your best 2 units of english.

but i am thinking, he could go really well in just english on its own. time taken up by ext1 and ext2 going into adv english and the rest will boost him up pretty well. but thats just my opinion. he'll probably feel its too late to drop anything now.

yeah thats the reason why i'm paining myself with the subject i hate most. I know i'm shit at it, and that i dont belong in ext2 :p My approach is simple when it comes to english: brute force; whatever it takes :)

You'll get band 6... and apparently they were a dumb year. :p
Also your (in)famous 4u maths exploits are much better that anything '03 produced, so you never know... as Ragerunner says 100 is not out...

(I hope)

As for me, I'm some kid in Yr 11.

Edit: jm1234567890 what about medicine? If he stuffed up UMAT and did av. in interview would he get in?

When you get that high, no point gettin 99.8 or 99.95... you want 100 for a UNSW scholarship, or 100.05 to be special. :)

I heard Anna Potaczala stuffed up mathematics and a unit of it had to be counted... and she got a mark of 50's in it?... according to Mr Murray.

*ouch*

What UAI did she end up getting... curious to see what the cream of the broth can achieve.

yeah because she was doing

Ext 2 English - 4 units
Biology - 2 units
Modern History - 2 units
Polish - 2 units
SOR - 1 unit
Maths - 2 units

she hated maths (as did i), but she had excess units so she wasn't too worried. she got about 97 and is now doing BSc(Media&Com) at USyd.

we had 4 99.6's, because we had 4 all-rounders
S is doing BEng(Aerospace) at USyd
J is doing LLB/BCom at USyd
N is doing LLB/BCom at UNSW
H, I'm not too sure, havent seen him in a while

btw aforementioned teacher is a jerk, i hate that guy. f*cker.

jebus... seems like i've vastly underestimated sefton. my respect for the 03ers has suddenly increased 4-fold! :D

why did the dux go to a 97 in the presence of 99.6s? Does sefton have weird criteria for selecting dux? hmmm
o well as long as i get into aerospace ill be a happy man :)

*0 for handing in assingnment at 8:31*
thats wot u get for doin history :p
heh... most teachers in sefton r whacked in some way

I'll say... that I didn't get selected as top of Yr10 last year is a testament to that very fact...

Every damn teacher is weird... and the science ones are the most screwed.

well technically sefton doesnt have duxes any more, the board got taken down for some reason. the closest thing is the Caltex All Rounder's Award, which is what my friend got, but that isnt JUST about academia, it's about contribution to the school community and crap like that
if you can recall, Anna was a cross country champ, she was Senior Prefect, did Duke of Edinburgh and she did volunteer work for the community too
i guess if you wanna get the true dux, you'd have to look at the final HSC marks and ranks of the all-rounders.

i pity the younger generation. i remember the days of great teachers at Sefton like Ms Tsevekidis (sob), Mr Cantor, Mr Robson, Mr Parker, etc. you got stuck with the shit ones. no offence...

Robson= Year 9 had to come up with a volcano reaction, he let us be creative ---> my group used a reaction between potassium permanganate and sodium... haven't used the fume cupboard since :p

Parker still 'round, runs duke of 'ed.
