On the news for the past weeks have been who will become the next Opposition Leader. I think it's drowned out the Mourning Day for Tsunami victims.

Anywayz make your prediction and time will tell who's right and wrong.

My prediction is going back to good old Kim Beazley.

Labor will not get anywhere if they do get another new leader, if Kim Beazley does return, Labor will be fucked. Kim Beazley did not win the 2001 election and it shows the Australian does not want him to be a Prime Minister and the result will be the same for the 2007 election. There are way too frequent change for the Labor leadership. Part of the Latham's failure during the 2004 election was that he did not have sufficient time to develop the strengh and experience he needs to win the election. Getting a new leader is not the answer, and I believe Latham's health shall allow him to continue his job and even a potential Prime Minister.

Latham is not a strong leader, Kevin Rudd on the other hand would be.

Kevin Rudd looks right for the job but apparently he's too arrogant and doesn't work well with the voters ( SMH )

I'm praying it wont be Rudd. I'm praying this crap will all just blow over and Latham remain.

Kevin Rudd looks like some type of retarded nerd or something. THe way he talks is totally repulsive and something about his charisma people don't like.
No way he'll get leader.

Latham has no credibility at the moment and especially coming off his ass licking comments, I think he will become leader and PM maybe when he is a little older.
Australian's are getting more conservative, so I think Kim Beazley has the conservative look.
Also I think with the conservative values, I don't think a woman is going to make leader. As Labor's factions are very masculine.

Kim Beazley all the way!!!!

The way you talk is "totally repulsive" as well.

Rudd is the best leader, if people dont like him they are twats. Kim Beazley is an ugly fat wanker, people dont vote for fat people, it shows a lack of self-discipline.

i'd like to see julia gillard in the top job, all she needs is a little more punch (or agressiveness) and she's perfect!

I like kevin rudd! he's pretty good with current foreign affairs  probably would be a good leader

but one news channel reported that he's got a good /extensive resume which lacks a leadership role somewhere

I think Bob Carr would make an excellent Prime Minister. He's been an excellent Premier, though some may think he's been Premier for too long - and I think if he starts afresh as Federal leader, he would make a fantastic PM.

I can't belive people are still suggesting KB. I guess he could bounce back like JH did but I don't think the chances are too high. I'm not bothered if the leader is ML, KR or JG but I don't want KB. BC would make a good federal leader but does he want to change? Also if he leaves halfway through his term it could be disastrous for NSW Labor. If I had to choose one leader it would be Rudd but as I said before I'm not fussy as long as it's not KB.

Carr would be leaving just as the term ended - giving enough time for the Labor party to get people used to the idea of the next Premier coming from their side as well.

Of all the state premiers it would have to be Beattie... As was pointed out in the illness thread, Queensland is a must win state at the federal level and Beattie appears to have survived last year without a great deal of damage (with reference to the opinion polls).

Edit: That isn't to say that the party should turn to the States for a leader.

The speculation of who will be leader of the labor party doesn't stop. It happened a few months before the election and now its happening again. I hope labor will get their act together soon, otherwise they'll end up losing the next election.

I dont want Beazley to become leader. Hes had his chances and i reckon he should give his leadership ambitions a rest. I would like Latham to remain leader but if that doesn't happen my next preference is Rudd.

They will lose the next election. The =swing needed is almmost imposible to obtain.....they need a long term leader to fix the party for the 2010 election.
