At my school, we have this massively long discussion about dropping subjects with our Dean of Studies (this is insanely boring, and basically it's a counseling session with an a-hole). Anyway if you want to drop down to 10 units (like me), they actually won't let you. I have gone to my Dean of Studies countless times but he wont budge (even though its my life..!). Anyway, i at least convinced him to let me drop one subject, and he gave me a form. It has to be signed by me, signed and initialed by a teacher, signed by a head of school, signed by a parent and signed by the dean of studies. So i'm running around trying to get shitloads of signatures.

So basically what i have to do now is sit down with him and my parents and 'discuss my future'. He told me he definitely won't budge, but i think he'll be surprised when he meets with my parents.

They hate his guts.

Yeah I had the exact same thing when i dropped Extension English, it's really annoying, especially the signatures and also the interview as well, I mean - I don't see why I need an interview.

LOL, if they implemented that at our school, people wouldn't even bother signing up for Extension subjects if they were unsure of whether or not they wanted to do it. :p

LOL - aren't you forced to do extension subjects?
For Prelim English, yes. HSC English, no. But minimum Advanced. For Maths, you don't have to do Extension. Some people do Maths 2U. But there's no General Maths. It's either 2U or no Maths. :)

Wow - that's the exact opposite to my school :p

At my school, they try and force everyone to do the lowest level of subjects (i.e. General Maths and Standard English) to keep the average high for us students who do Extension subjects - so we don't get 'scaled down' by the less capable students.

Yeah, I dunno - I don't know too much about scaling. I've always been a firm believer in worrying about what you can control, I can't really control scaling, so I really don't give a damn about it. :p [Well, not yet, anyway]

Agreed. But remember: you can still take advantage of the scaling system by doing well.

As long as we perform well in our respective subjects, the scaling will work for us, not against us. :p

Yeah, but I worry about the doing well bit, not the scaling bit. :p
