umm for those who have sat the hsc 4u exam, wat was the highest raw mark
like is it hard to get a scaled mark above 95 for 4u? (compared to say 3unit maths, and taking into account scaling of the course in general)
thnx ppls.

I think the guide was that you were just about guaranteed band E4 with 90/120, but beyond that I don't know, but from memory less than 100 people in the state get above 95 in 4u, so I'm guessing you'd be looking at somewhere around 105/120 to be sure of such a mark.

The highest raw mark varies each year, but it is generally between 115 and 120.

I think (not sure though) that for 95 u need about 100/120 or at least that's what I've heard anyway cause I was told 97/120 went to about 94 so I'm just making an assumption... whatever the case is, the better u do in the exam the better your mark so I wouldn't get too hung up about what u are going to get until u go in there and try to get it (this is my way of covering up the fact I'm probably wrong).

The highest mark last year was 109\120 I'm quite sure. Also, about 75\120 will get a band e4

I would seriously doubt that, I've been able to get 115 in one past HSC paper.

2003 was particularly difficult however.
Did you get 115 in 2001/2002?

It's highly unlikely that this information has been released... state sources, please. :uhhuh:

They released the highest mark in 4u for several years in one of the study guides at one stage (Excel?).

And is this just so you can exploit the same source James?

Hmm well I guess I could be completely wrong here but didn't keypad say the highest mark he could possibly have got for what he answered was 109? And I also thought that CM tutor had those kind of stats somehow...

And, well, I'd love to say where I got the info on what makes a band e4 but I really shouldnt (it's only a rough number anyway). I dont see why its so unbelievable anyway, considering the average mark for extention 2 exams is only around 60 according to that 50 tips book

Is this true?? this is only 63%!! with scaling does this get an E4?
This will get you 90 aligned if what he says is true. I would be thinking a figure more like 90/120 is more feasible as the E4 cutoff.

lol fine dont believe me. However, remember that there are HEAPS of people out there who dont even have a chance of passing the hsc 4u exam, let alone getting up close to a hundred. Considering that >25% of the state usually gets a band e4, I dont see how the cut off could possibly be as high as 90/120. My school has around 50 doing 4u, but I'm certain at least half of them will get < 50% (and yes I agree they shouldnt be doing 4u in the first place)

actually justin i agree with grimreaper, the E4 cut off cant b as high as 90/120, depends on the difficulty of the exam tho....

For several years, yes, but I don't believe it has been done since the advent of the new HSC - no raw stats since before 2001. And, naturally I'd want to exploit the same source... it would obviously be one that I've missed somewhere along the line. :)

I was mainly curious as to whether you had 'official' info or just guesses. We don't have any data at all regarding the distributions of raw marks for the new HSC... I'm not convinced that everything would be the same as in previous years. The distributions were definitely different in 2001, because they resulted in that scaling debacle where Extension 2 students were unduly advantaged.
