I tend to think we should always err on the side of giving the people a vote rather than not. Alot of arguments against 16yr olds voting were used against women 50yrs a go. If you are a citizen who wants to vote, you probably should be allowed to.

Case in point, my 13 YO brother could make a better decision on who to vote for and more importantly why than most people I meet... especially in my professional capacities - Yet they get a vote and he doesn't?

16 is a good age, go for it.

Agreed, even 16 is too high. Anyone who is old enough to work and pay tax to the government should have the right to vote.

Alternatively, people under 18 could be exempted from paying tax.

How can this possibly fucking well be light and off-beat?

IT'S ABOUT FUNDEMENTAL ELECTORAL REFORM AS INDICATED IN THE SECOND ELECTORAL REFORM GREEN PAPER:

http://www.pmc.gov.au/consultation/...y/docs/strengthening_australias_democracy.pdf

Wow, that' so fucking light and off-beat isn't it? Yeah, I'm totally sitting here lolling at it.

For fucks sake do you just wake up each day, pick a random thread and go "I'll move this one to Light and Off Beat so it looks like I'm doing something"?

The Electoral Reform Green Papers - Voting Age & Other Electoral Mechanics Discussed

The 2nd electoral green paper can be found here: http://www.pmc.gov.au/consultation/...y/docs/strengthening_australias_democracy.pdf

With some opening commentary from Pollbludger to be found here: How green was my paper: episode two – The Poll Bludger

The noteworthy issues covered in this green paper are:
- Serious consideration of lowering the voting age to 16 or 17, and the various models for doing so (e.g. should it be 16 and compulsory? 17 and voluntary till 18?)
- By-election mechanics and disincentives (or lack thereof) for MPs to quit halfway through their term
- Automated enrolment once people turn 18, based on school rolls (e.g. HSC)

For reference, the first green paper can be found here and it deals with funding, donations, and limits: http://www.pmc.gov.au/consultation/elect_reform/docs/electoral_reform_green_paper.pdf
Similarly, Pollbludger's summary of that one is found here: How green was my paper – The Poll Bludger

The occasional inconsistent placing of threads in an inappropriate sub section of an internet forum is enough to make anyone enraged.

Oh get to fuck you retards, as I have said repeatedly, L&OB is for individual news items. This counts. Want to discuss voting standards in general? NCAP, which is where I left the other thread.

Jesus motherfuck.

Other moderators were mean to me for not moving threads to L&OB.

And then the punters would be mean to me when I did.

:(

Cruel world.
