imo a faster speed internet will allow the growth of further unexpected hits (good or bad), e.g. the creation of youtube, bittorrent etc was a result of broadband in the first place

They offer a better service because they know that if you don't receive that you will take your business elsewhere.

Why don't we get the government to provide us with food? I mean if the private sector fucked up on food and just decided not to provide it we'd be pretty fucked right?
I would have no problems with government departments being responsible for overseeing farming and other food productions, we allow government to train and pay teachers and doctors, Nobody is suggesting teachers and parents should negotiate their wages are we?

Standards at public hospitals would also be better were taxes raised and funding as well, furthermore private standards would drop because they'd be more expensive to run. Or prices would go up, either way value would drop.

Plenty of parents pay for tutoring.
And yet they still send their children to schools which the government provides most of the cash, wonder why that is?

Because that's how private education works in Australia?
Well why don't the tell the government"no thanks, we believe in a free market" answer? because everyone knows the freemarket doesn't work and education is too important to play around with.

Because the Government fund most schools regardless...

08er, peer to peer did not come about solely because of broadband, it existed beforehand.

The Government would have had to have spent $4.3 billion if they had gone with Telstra. They have chosen to build their own network and have so proven that on top of the multiple stimulus packages they have planned, they intend to put Australia into debt possibly for decades to come.

I just cannot wait till they somehow turn around this huge debt on the Liberal party once they are voted out. They will find a way, rest assured.

Have you ever been do a private emergency department?

Oh wait, they don't exist...

Same situation - the private sector is never going to shell out for ridiculously expensive things, seeing as the benefits don't come in the form of profit.

The benefits of emergency departments and fibre optic internet are quite similar - increased future tax receipts from users, and societal happiness (their friends dont die/people can download HD movies instantly)

If the government forcibly extracts the funding to create such a department from the public, then provides it for free, how on earth is a private service going to compete with that? Stop being silly.

My point is that it is silly to expect the private sector to provide an incredibly sophisticated network that will cost $$$, seeing as they cant forcibly extract funding, and as a result would end up providing a much worse/more expensive final product

No.

I'm not quite sure how you've just connected emergency departments and fibre optic internet cables...

First, provide a reference that all private hospitals do not have emergency departments, and even if this is true, this was not the level on which the argument was based.

The Internet isn't a fire engine. The person paying for the Internet didn't leave their wallet inside a burning house.

IT'S NOT A FUCKING TRUCK

Which is why private schooling has been generally increasing over the past few decades?
