I don't think you should place too much trust in what a tutor says to be honest. Sometimes they will say nice things to avoid being antagonised/harassed by their students.
but I didn't ask for feedback.. the tutor said it to me :'(

I hope I get a good mark for it. But the mark for it won't likely be available till the end of the semester.

Does anyone know much about ECOF 1002?

It says: " This unit of study is meant for students from a non-English speaking background. " on http://www.econ.usyd.edu.au/subject/ECOF1002.html

I don't know if I'd be eligible to take it.. how is "from a non-English speaking background" defined? Does that mean that if you've got any credentials showing or implying proficiency in English, you're not allowed to take it?
yep im taking ECOF1001, which is the same as ECOF1002. The only difference is that ECOF1002 has an extra 1-hour tutorial where you learn about Australian culture a bit, spend more time on grammar, learn about the differences between academic writing in Oz v other countries.

I doubt you'd need the extra tutorial, though, so you could just enrol in ECOF1001. You'll be graded against ECOF1001 and 1002 students, anyway

Ok thanks..
I thought ECOF 1002 would be easier than 1001.

I don't know if I'd be considered to be of a non-English speaking background..

(I was thinking about ECOF1002 cuz ECOF1001 is only available in Semester 2: http://www.econ.usyd.edu.au/subject/ECOF1001.html and I don't know if it'd be offered in Semester 1, 2008)

well, I can always ask the SIO :) Hope there aren't too many people lining up there these days..

both ECOF1001 and ECOF1002 are only available in sem2.

Also, they don't force you to go into 1001/1002. You decide yourself, based on your perceived appreciation of Australian cultural differences to your home country and level of English written ability. you can write pretty well.

Oh.... :( I'll think about other electives then
Pity cuz this subject seems fun and allows for substantial creativity.

it's not fun. the seminars are very boring. the assignments do allow for creativity, though.

Speeches... Role-Play... Group Tasks... Group Tasks that are Role-Play Speeches.

What a horrifying semester this is shaping up to be.

LOL!!
I meant..

acting during group presentations,
for example: some people act as consumers, the others as retailers
or pretend you're promoting something, filming an ad.. etc

these would seem like a lot of fun.. if everyone in your group loves acting!
I'd love to play the role of an angry boss who cries and breaks down after everyone leaves the office/room.. or something like it
it's challenging though, since you gotta really cry

lol...that's a really bad way to do a presentation:
"Hi, I'd like a pizza"
"yes, certainly, what kind of pizza would you like"

Re: Semester II Chatter Thread!

I think it's nice to study at Manning..
Wentworth? well if you have an oral presentation you can practice there.
Since it's so noisy, people won't stare at you when you practice your presentation out loud.. they won't likely notice you anyway
