hey guys, i just wanted some advice/feedback on whether i should do history ext and other peoples experiences with it.

for some context im def more of a humanities/english based student and history is one of my strongest subjects (currently ranked 2/61 for modern at a top ranking selective school). however, im also considering doing 4u english so im not sure if itll be worth doing 2 major works (or even starting with both, seeing how i go and dropping later in y12 if it becomes too much).

ik theres an internal major work and external exam and i would love to know more abt these but i was mainly wondering how classes are structured and what content is covered (even though ik its school specific) as my teacher kept going on abt how ext is very different to 2u but wouldnt elaborate on how.

I did both his ext and e2 Eng. Ended up dropping Hist ext for the latter. I also recommend doing both and then dropping 1 down the road depending on ur time and interests. In Hist ext they cover historiography and the differences of opinions and methodology of historians in how they assess and collect data to form opinions ( at least from what I remember). For e.g some historians have a traditional approach, some have a very post-modernist/ unconventional approach. For e.g of what you might look at: my teacher in Y11 made us look at historiography over Comfort Women/ to what extent did the problem exist ( s.k + world agrees theyre real, Japan says it was consensual/ exaggerated) to prep for Y12 history ext and basically analysis the difference between historian views on the matter. You get to do your own research into subjects of interest which is great but I personally didn’t like analysing the methodological differences between historians. In ext 2 Eng; they never force u to analysis something like specific Literary critics—> however you are expected to compile literary research + all academic research related to your subject of focus. So for e.g if you want to write a short story on intergenerational trauma you need to analysis/ research: how to write a short story, types of short stories, opinions from psychologists on inter generational trauma, how to compile traumatic literature, etc.

this is getting rlly long, but that should broadly cover the topics explored in both subjects
