Yeah same here strangely. never had gf. Guess I was like the op, sort of failing at reading signs and making the moves.

Worst thing is, how do you make the move on someone you've never worked or talked to in a lecture or tutorial. Guess it makes it harder in that I'm post-grad atm. The only chicks who are normal are the ones working in hospitals, or on placement etc.

i think i just have high (almost unreachable) standards. But to add to that, i'm kinda odd in that i'd expect a girl to make the first move and ask me out... i guess no girl has ever been interested lol.

I think the OP answered his own question. In my experience women very rarely approach men. If women are interested they normally just wait for a circumstance where they have to do a minimal amount of work to get you to notice them, or not at all and let the opportunity pass by. Some are old-fashioned and conservative like that. Which is why you'll only ever know if you are confident and go up to them first. It's extremely difficult at first but gets easier as you get older especially when alcohol is involved.

There are rare cases where a women approaches a man first, such as the case with my first girlfriend. By no coincidence she was older and of course more experienced than I was.

I know this completely, I'm not socially retarded I just don't generally comply to the social norms of relationships. I can talk to girls fine, I just think it's rather odd that the male has to make 99% of the effort, not to mention a majority of girls make it somewhat difficult to pick up on signs that show their interested.
