Take my advice, social outcasts are best left as social outcasts.
When i first changed schools there was this one guy always lonered, never talked, wore his pants really high, etc. and everyone i asked said he pulled out scissors and started chasing/threatening people in year 7 so nobody would talk to him.
Thinking he probably made one mistake and people had to get over it or had changed his ways since those days I tried to be nice and talk to him.
First he yelled some profanities and then kicked me in the balls.
He may have been an outcast but the guy could kick hard.
So then i got known as the guy that got beat up by a freak, even though I wouldn't classify it as a 'beat up', but that didn't stop people making fun of me.
Luckily people did get over it, but fora while there i felt like the outcast.
So yeah, befriend at your own risk.
