Alf Stewart is nothing short of the epitome of heroism and must be honoured on an annual basis as a sign of unparalleled respect.

someone in our school who wants to join the army

'oh man, it'd be so cool to snipe someone in the head'

these fucked up people are heroes? and nobody gives a shit about the doctors who keep them alive and the engineers who actually work to rebuild a country rather than blowing it up?
Someone who is not in the Military can hardly be held as indicative of the Military can they champion?

And FYI the engineers who work to rebuild the country, guess where they come from... the Military.

They have a right to mourn everyone does and you cant prepare for death. It is annoying that they go on about unfair it is that they died or how they whine about not being able to support their kids.

You accepted that life with a high risk of death or ^^^ happening. I don't believe they are more important than any other person who dies because they put themselves in a risky position.

Sure if they died defending the country or helping people but fighting in unnecessary wars is just meh
You seem confused about your opinion. First it is if you are in a high risk job just accept it, then it's if you are a fire fighter I feel sorry for you but not if you are a soldier... Which is it?

I'm calling you out right now, find me articles where War Widows whine about not being able to support their children in the future. And also tell me how much money they get from the Government as earlier you seemed to be an expert on that as well.

It seems to me you are shooting off your mouth about an issue you don't understand and are just making outlandish claims that you refuse to back up.

Then why do we make a distinction between deploying the AFP to international situations and the ADF?

The AFP's role is policing and support, the ADF's role is to apply blunt force and to murder.
Incorrect.

The Australian Army's mission statement is to provide a potent, versatile and modern Army to promote the security of Australia and to protect its people and interests.
Doesn't say anything about murder does it? What about the ADF's work in the Solomon and Timor, which is essentially a Policing role... You are just making sweeping generalizations that are obviously false.

good, one person i like in this post. australians helping in afghanistan are helping to rebuild the afghans rebuild their country, not invade it. we train the afghan soldiers, not fight them. the efforts that all the armies are putting in to afghanistan is also pre-occupying the terrorists so they can never have time to do things like september 11.

Fire fighters are heros because they are protecting people, not killing them.

I dont think soldiers who elect to fight in unnecessary wars are heros I think they are killers. Thats basically it and it was an easy point to get from my jibberish.

They get enough money to live and they have the option to find work or remarry.

Plenty of single mothers with kids are surviving.

All these arguments are presuppose that an Afghan life is worth as much as a Westerners life (as a proxy for Australians).

Just sayin.

You have no facts to back up the claims you are making.

Sweet can you point to the Afghani citizens who were involved in Sep 11?
