Did anyone catch the Lili movie on Friday? After seeing naked sexxors in the opening credits, I lost my nerve for it, and occasionally flipped to it.. I couldn't help myself.

It probably wouldn't have helped - it was the story of a bloke and his girlfriend Lili, who go to visit her mum (a grande dame actress) and the mum's boyfriend in the summer. Lili makes off with her mum's boyfriend, and the bloke marries her sister, and 5 years later, meets up with Lili again (she is now a starlet) and makes a movie about the events of that summer. It's all very confusing and too artsy for Friday night, I reckoned.

Hehe, speaking of films, I did turn the television on late one night a couple of years ago to come across a bizzare film called "The Killer Condom", French, of course...I was utterly confused the say the least. I think they literally had a condom that was runnning around with razor-sharp teeth.

And then one other that seemed relatively digestible, but had a very strange ambience, don't remember it's name, but I think it was about a woman who woke up one day stuck in a tall building surrounded by people who seemed to belong in a mental institution. It was intriguing until people began to rape and shoot each other, after which total confusion ensued and it ended with the woman running out of the building and walking off into the distance along a railway track. I was suitably puzzled...there was hardly any dialogue either...

Hip - Après vous - I just got it from amazon.fr for my birthday Yay special features . I don't think they're going to rush it for a region 4/Australian release, sadly.

Her younger sister Louise (Catherine Frot), who never left the provinces, is charming, natural and touchingly awkward. Louise has aspirations to become a writer though, and soon after sending a manuscript to a publisher in Paris, she's invited to the city for a Monday appointment. To Martine's exasperated horror, Louise is coming to stay with her for the weekend!

In the presence of guests, Louise's provincial open-ness, quickly becomes an embarrassment for her elegant and uptight sister - who has done her very best to conceal and erase her chequered past. When alone, however, they slowly begin to re-bond. But social catastrophe looms - Martine has invited her snappy friend Sophie (Brigitte Catillon) and her husband over for dinner - and the unwitting Louise, clearly, will be out of her depth...

This stylish comedy-of-manners from first time writer-director Alexandra Leclere is packed with plenty of verbal fireworks and provides a great platform for the very classy cast. However, this is Huppert's show. Whether venting her spleen at her husband, back-pedalling, or getting gloriously sloshed, Huppert's Martine is all panache.

Also from the French Film Festival earlier this year. I liked it. Ended in a way that left emotional threads tied, but not schmaltzy and bleuch that Hollywood can be . I liked just how much of a bitch Martine could be, it was quite funny actually.

Again re films: LES CHORISTES (THE CHORUS) IS ALSO COMING OUT ON DVD IN AUST ON 17 AUGUST!!!!!!! The quintessential French film of the first half of the first new decade of the millennium. OK, so that leaves the bar very open to being topped, but, box office smash, very cute little film.

How about Les Choristes?
I saw it with my family on exchange in france but my french was shocking then and I barely got a word of it.
Then I watched it with my mum back home (with sous-titres thank the lord) and its a great movie.

i was just wondering, how do u like arts languages...? i was considering doing it but i only just discovered it and theres no way i'll get the uai now, but just for future reference, wats it like?
It's really hard to find a course with a reasonable uai where you can do french, german and italian at the same time but end up qualified as something lol

J’ai le film « Les Yeux Sans Visage » chez-moi.
Puisque je l’ai achèté en France, il n y a pas de sous-titres.
J’ai beaucoup envie de le voir mais je vais attendre jusqu'* je suis en pleine forme avec le français,
parce-que j’ai pas envie de le mal comprendre !

De quoi s’agit il ?

Une jeune femme a un accident ; par consequence son visage est defiguré. Son père est chirugien qui specialise dans des griffes de peau. Lui et son assistante essaient de faire entrez chez eux par « la ruse « des nombeuses autres jeunes femmes, pour « voler » leurs traits de visage et les donner * sa fille.

Sans doute un film d’horreur !

J'ai vu Joyeux Noël en France et c'est incroyable.. très triste, mais ça m'a touché trop...

J'ai endendu au sujet d'un film s'appelle "le nez" - c'est un film d'horreur (peutêtre vous avez lu le livre?) Mais, on m'a dit que c'est vraiment fantastique si vous aimez les trucs comme ça!

I happen to catch a fair few of them on sbs just coincidentally, but i always forget the names of the films themselves; which is where you beautiful people may come in very handy.

There are two films which are slipping my mind at the moment, and here is what the blurb would look like on both.

film 1 -
A young, single french woman, who works as a cameraman is enticed into joining a group of thieves, who lead a life of crime. She films their robberies for an unknown reason, and is eventually seduced by the leader of the group. The group disband, and she turns to a life of high expenditure and of course, crime to pay for it all. The movie climaxes with the group getting back together, and pulling off an incredibly complex and large scale job, which results in the death of everyone except for that woman.

^this was on sbs fairly recently, i think on a friday night. about 2-3 months ago.

film 2 -
A mother and daughter are stuck in a desolate location in the desert (i think). and the daughter gets romantically involved with a military man, who leaves. Then she befriends a dark skinned man who is their nearest neighbour, and they have a child. Her mother dies, and there is an amazing generation skip, where the actor who played the young daughter at the start is now playing her own daughter, who is a delinquent, and finds the same military man again. The mother uses all of her money to send her daughter to the city, away from the desert.

^This was on a very long time ago... about a year ago. hence the details are a little vague.

Help on either would be incredibly appreciated.

Good old SBS. I love French movies, such a nice break from Hollywood's bullshit. Their plot's are so much better, and while they contain a lot of sex and romance, it isn't as grotesque as American films. I missed Amelie's screening, and I've never seen the wole film unfortunately...

Nearly three years have passed since you asked this. I hope you have found the names of the films already and haven't been checking everyday for a reply to your question!

Anyway, the first film is called 'Ni pour, ni contre (bien au contraire) (Not for, or Against (Quite the Contrary))' (2003). Here's the link to the film on imdb-

I have no idea about the second one. The description that you have given reminds of another good French film though called 'Va, vis, et deviens (Live and Become)' (2005). You should check it out. Here's the link to it-
