haha ok ill answer here because its late, im tired and couldnt be bothered pming... also others might find this useful

Im doing a bachelor of technology education at southern cross university. It gives me the training to teach design and tech years 7-10 and as im doing the IT/Multimedia strand Ill be able to teach senior computers as well as junior.

There are excellent job prospects for IT teachers as they are quite rare (like most highschool teachers cept art and pe). You can get a scholarship from the DET to cover all your hecs fees they are in such high demand.

without that 7-10 D&T job prospects AREN'T as good as having straight IT qualifications so I am glad to hear you hv that covered

its only good i guess if u are seriously into computers
in preliminary i guess the first core is ok but then it just turns completely irrelevant to what ur interested in to the max and u just end up saying fuck this shit. doesnt help when the teacher is a fuck head and u just want to stab his eyes out with a fork! :uhhuh:

Yeah that irrelevancy (haha sp?) got to me too and was yet another reason why I decided to go in IT teaching... one day I want to rewrite the syllabus because I got to uni and did all that irrelevant stuff again so the highschool years could have been used for something else, more tied to everyday teenage life. But then again maths was completely irrelevant too haha.

I think I have a 'thing' going with this thread.... sorry dudes!

both topics - now option topics in the new IST syllabus- give students a taste of areas available for study in senior years
seems rather lame to expect students to select SDD if they have had no introduction to algorithms

and since your generation is expected to have 5 DIFFERENT careers in a lifetime
its hardly possible for you to decide what you may need to have an understanding of in the future

so here's a perverse concept, one rarely considered and hardly ever pursued,
how about getting an education just for the sake of knowledge itself, just for the sheer pleasure of becoming a more well-rounded human with a deeper understanding of the world around you

Why would you take IPT if you weren't into computers though? Its not like its assumed knowledge at uni's for any courses.
