FYI, you will also need a return to work certificate regardless if your doctors certificate states that it only covers until next week.

As per return to work policy you will need this certificate to certify that you are fit and well to return to work on full duties(or modified ones). without this your return to work coordinator(usually SMorSTM/SSM) should be sending you home.

my advise is to go and get this, take it in and they cannot stop you from returning
Are you serious? I had surgery on my jaw, its not like it was my back or anything.

I might just go and see the 2IC. She won't care and would call me in.

Does anyone know where to order the green supervisor vest? I need a new one. I know there was discussion on this before but cant find what page it was on?

I looked on storenet the other day but couldn't really find anything. And the managers are sooo up tight about it. Even if your a back up supervisor they make you wear one! Bit stupid.

I think the general consensus was somewhere in Storenet. However I don't see why you should be made to buy one if you are only a backup.

Theres 2 or 3 spares at my store, mostly fairly large sizes (on the verge of obese lulz).
Better than none, though.

In other news...

The service manager from my score got terminated on Friday. Not sure why. But all very sad. She was a brilliant manager.

Also, much stealing occurred from the House Parcel unit, and it's had to be moved ONTO THE SHOP FLOOR so it can be under video surveillance. (It's in a corner near a checkout)

Hmmm, what would the duties of, say, the area bakery specialist be?

Liasing with department managers across stores (as well as senior store-level management)... what else?

Harry - doesn't your store have spares in the smokeshop?
We did at my old store. But my new one is a bit crap. Cant wait till Refurbishment! They say its been bought forward, but I never believe what they say. When they give you a date, add a year and a half to it. Thats what happened at my old store. The workers came in before close time and everyone was like :O omg its actually happening hahaha!

Our store`s mangement is so stupid. They have cut down our Service Managers Wage Allocation. On our busiest times ( Thursday Night & Saturday)! On Saturdays we are running with 12 people, when we usually have 15 or 16. On Thursday Night we had 5 Normal Checkouts & One Express checkout. Next week, we are down to 4 Normal & 1 Express!

Apparently, we are losing sales due to the Shopping Centre Renovations & Extensions.NOT That we can see it!

You will. My centre was redone last year and we are still feeling the effects. Mostly because during that time (where there was no parking, it was really noisy, etc) customers started shopping at other nearby stores. Now its become habit for them, so nearby stores (within about 10 mins drive of us) have gotten heaps busier than they were before.

wixxy: service manager must have done something pretty horrible for termination, like stealing, or they must have gotten a really, really, really bad IPDIP. i think the specialists just make sure all the stores are tied up and such, but probably also liase with buying and marketing, help with training and such.

T360: management cant just decide to cut hours necescarily, hours have to be kept to 105.5% OR of SMS hours (which are set by Industrial Engineering, and based on the number of items) and the bugdets which are set by head office and such, which determine money spent based on sales. so it probably is due to less sales.

Haha its IPDP, individual performance development plan or something along those lines. every salaried staff member must have one done on them every year, before end of financial year. Its basically a review of your strengths, weaknesses, and where you have the opportunity to develop your skills better. Pretty much the only way to get instantly terminated is for stealing.

As for SMS, expected operating ratios vary between different area groups. Region 8 is expected to hit 103%, as a whole, but there is also a focus on wage percentage of sales, to make sure we are actually saving money.

they upped it to 105.5% (for our area at least) for the last month of this financial year, not sure if thats continuing though, though i do know any manager who has an OR of less than 100% (as of next week) will be demoted immediatley, no questions asked.

Probably for taking home a bread roll or something ridiculous...

Does anyone else get annoyed when customers use their green shopping bags as their basket? It drives me bananas, especially on express when they've filled it right up and you have to wait until they've unpacked everything until you can re-pack the bag, and you usually have to pile things up on the scales and then you can't weigh produce items. Is it that hard to pick up a basket on the way in?

I think its a good thing that supervisors should wear vests, it makes them more easily identifiable with customers and i think they look pretty good for a supermarket uniform.

And furthermore, for some stupid reason they put an ad on TV here about the Qantas Frequent Flyer partnership even though we don't even effing have Everyday Rewards. Now we've had a stream of people all day wanting to know where to sign up.

And I had a conversation with some old guy about him getting frequent flyer points and how he always has and something about his credit card and grocery shopping, until i realised he was talking about fly buys.

Hi mate, The reason why we do this is to not just protect you but to protect our business as well.

If you have an existing 'injury', then return to work and it is aggravated it is then considered to be a work related injury/workers compensation.

A return to work certificate is required to show that your current injury/operation allows you to return to full duties and is not going to hinder you working.

Stay safe. Remember, Destination Zero :) (Talking about injuries, Norwest has a massive injury rate compared to the rest of the business. The amount of people falling down the stairs is just crazy).
