You know what, the nil responsibility thing is the best thing about my cash office shift. As much as yes, you can be fired if the armaguard crap is wrong, I'm the sidekick, nothing more.

OMGZ though, shit day. Four down, my operator shift never got replaced, new SM doesn't know checkouts (or at least thats what he told me), a massive case of 'too many chiefs not enough indians', and my store is now subject to the 'supervisors don't serve' rule. So all morning I sulked about that plus the lack of decent operators I have for close tomorrow night.

I make it sound like I never have a decent day at work :( Perhaps because its true.

Yeah but "i had a great day at work nothing to report!" is a bit boring for us.

But Yoddle's wise words for Wednesday are that you should be very grateful that the rule is "supervisors can't serve" not "the only rostered supervisor must serve at the expense of everyone's sanity and customer service levels"

However, I don't see why I should call an express alert while I fill magazines? My SSM saw me serving this morning while my 2IC was god knows where (I just presume she's disappeared half the time), and he was actually serious when he said, Jess, you're not meant to be serving now, I'll call an express alert for you.

THERE WERE EIGHT PEOPLE WAITING AT EXPRESS, TWO SERVING AND I HAD NOTHING TO DO.

I don't get it.

(and she's a decent operator too, does thursday night smokeshop and is being supervisor trained)

obviously they're trying to make a point.

Hey what happens in back office when your colours are all whacked? like mine is white on white when i write text into a white text box? I went into the colours section to try and change them but it looked horrible and confoozing.
It a case of trial and error. I found some colours where you can see the highlighted text, they are gaudy and bright and not too bad on the eyes. But it's better than dealing with the default colours in back office.

IF I can remember, I'll write down the numbers for you and post them here tomorrow.

I called them at 8.30 this morning - 5hrs before my rostered shift.
If I was management I'd be happy with that. :uhhuh:

looooooool does anyone rememeber the major upgrade we had last year, and then the registers used to get stuck on the screen savers??? omfg i was sooooo bloody pissed off....
That one was in the 8.0 zone, wasn't it? I was told by senior management those various 8.0's were the worst they've had to deal with. No shit!!! I swear there must have been 8 upgrades in that 12 month period. Grrrrrrrr!

Not impressed by Woolworths, but then, as a staff member my impression has decreased substantially over the past 12 months.

Instead of encroaching on established small businesses in small towns, why don't they put their money were it's truly needed? Our little Woolworths is in a small town in the NW of WA. Woolworths has no other competition since the only small businesses in town are a coffee shop, snack bar and poxy so-called restaurant. The stores fixtures are over 20 years old and if we ask for anything new, such as trolleys, we get another stores 2nd handers, which become 3rd handers when they get to us. It's in need of a major upgrade, but all we get are empty promises. It doesn't help much with staff moral when you get given crap equipment and not listened to.

Not only that, we have to listen to legitimate customer complaints about the store. They have every right to shop in a clean and modern store especially if they are doing their weekly shop and when each trolley can be worth up to $300+ (food is expensive where we are). Customers are trying to be loyal to the local supermarket, but it's bloody hard when the local supermarket doesn't give a rats clacker about the customers.....or staff.

Oh. also a question about easter. My ex CSM and my current 'SSO' said that it's against company policy to have annual leave over easter. does anyone know if this is actually written somewhere or is it just one of those rules, doesn't matter to me, my holiday form has been signed and my air tickets booked. but i'm interested if they are right or full of shit.

I think the only month where Annual leave is very hard to get is during December. If it was the same for easter our Store Room manager wouldn't be going away for a month and our CSM wouldn't be going away for 3 weeks.

Everyone at my store is jumping for joy because our SSM is off on holiday at the end of March for 2 weeks. We are so happy about that.

Also the SM has told me that I'm covering Store Room when the manager goes away...But has he bothered to tell my Department manager? Noo...I wouldn't want to be him when she finds out. I thought I should tell her but I don't have a death wish.

Oh my god don't get me started on Hungry Beast. They have such a moral smugness and such a confidence in their undergraduate journalistic superiority it makes me want to vomit. BOTH their swish little "exposes" on Woolies/Coles and a couple of weeks ago ASIO were SHIT examples of journalism - all they had to do was copy and paste ASIO's wikipedia page into those graphics, yet they act as if they were bringing out the "untold" story of ASIO. And from an informative point of view, do we really care what ASIO was doing in 1947, i'm more concerned about a bomb going off on my next flight than their stuff ups 60 years ago. As for the Woolies "story", like ekul said there was nothing new, all that could be found out with a quick google search and commonsense, of course Woolworths isn't a big cuddly friendlt giant and if anyone thought they were then they were living in lala land.

Grrrrr i hate that show!! Except for their Today Tonight parodies.

also, got Back Office and Stock Management log on today, number 504. does anyone know what that gives me access too?
504 = Manager

So you have access to all features in Stock Management and Back Office.

You should only have this privilege level if you are a Store Manager/STM/SSM, Area Manager, Trading Specialist, SSS, or SMT.

PS. if you're not authorised to have manager privileges, you should teach them a lesson... go down an aisle and change all the MPLs to 1 :)

I watched both... completely disagreed with the tone (very Today Tonightish - not what I expect my taxpayers dollars to be spent on) of the first piece (the generic looks at Woolworths vs Coles)... it's not their fault that they legally manipulated the system. They harp on about this 70% market share between the two and compare us with the UK and US but they conveniently neglect two key facts...

1. The US has a population of 300 million... it can accommodate more rivals as there are more customers to woo
2. The UK would roughly fit into NSW... logistically it would be a lot easier for smaller companies to compete as economies of scale are not so severe. And although they don't have 300 million people like the US they still have 50 million+. Our vast landmass makes it tough to compete when there is only 21 million of us...

As for the Newport one, I agree with them. Newport is a really small village and one of the reasons the Coles was accepted by the locals was the fact that they made it a boutique store - it only has six aisles and is less than 1/4 size of a normal supermarket. And all the parking is underground so it doesn't visually impact on the view. There is a Woolworths in Avalon 10 mins to the north, there is a Woolworths at Mona Vale 10 mins to the south, I don't really think they need another supermarket somehow.

MPL is the absolute minimum you want to have before you get more stock in (in and filled, not ordered), so usually its set to maintain a facing so you can still make it look ok.

504 is Manager, although its not uncommon for senior department managers and duty managers to have it also soyou may be right, a nifty thing with manager numbers is the ability to custom price any RTC's rather than have a set %age and to go below 60%, which Department Managers are restricted too, although obviously got to use it only when deemed necessary and sanctioned...

Yeah I was about to say, all the duty mangaz at our store have manager privileges.
DM Mike how do you do that!? I tried to work it out the other day because someone on here said you could but i really couldn't do it.

Just now:
*old man buys three items*
me: "would you like a bag for those?"
old man: "no! no i don't need a bag" "oh wait i forgot prunes!"
*hobbles away and comes back with a small packet of prunes*
me: "okay thats 14.20 blah blah, here's your receipt, have a good night"
old man: "you better get me a bag for these! what do you think i am, an octopus with ten legs!?"

GAH.
