But I did the paper this morning thinking that the top mark would be 120 and I got 116/120. (would have lost more marks under HSC exam condition) :(
I'm just curious about what you mean here lyounamu?

Hey Iyounamu, you seem to know alot about this kinda stuff. Would you have any idea of what raw mark (approximately) in MX1 you would need to get a moderated score of 95+, high 70s/84? Also, what raw mark in MX2 would get you 90+ and 95+? Thanks :ninja:

95+ for 3unit would be 78-80ish+ raw
90+ for 4unit would be 70-75%+ raw.

don't know about 95+ for 4unit though, i think thres a huge gap between the state rankers and the 'average' 4u students.

Thanks, and wow, they're lower raw marks than i expected

Edit: ..59-63/84 in 3u gets around 95+ doesn't look right... how can you get 20+ marks deducted and still end up with a mark being moderated to up to and inexcess of 95? I would've thought i'd be atleast around the 85%.

E4 in 4unit is top 30% of the cohort I believe, don't think getting 75% raw in 4unit is that easy though :p

High e4's ridiculously hard though.

58-62 is E4(90) in Ext 1 so i thing it would be about 75 that would be about 95 that is an extra 15 marks and only going up 5. Could even be a little less.

Ext 2 i expect to be about 65%. as Ext 1 is 70% and ext 2 is harder.

58-62=90 in 3u? i was unaware of that. i thought it was like 65-67, i spose it would depend upon the difficult of the exam etc. Does anyone know what got e4 in 2006? everyone complained bout that paper apparently. A student from our school got 96 last year in 3U with what he thinks was 79/84, so i think ur on the money

I would lose more due to the pressure I would get during HSC exam. I mean, I was quite relaxed even during my CSSA trial thinking that whatever I get, I wouldn't beat the top maths guy at my school. But getting my result I ended up beating him and I was quite surprised. In the exams prior to my trial, I was so stressed because I wanted to beat that guy but I never ended up beating in the last 4 exams prior to Trial - the stress would have overwhelmed me you know...and I am assuming that I will be in the simialr condition to that in few weeks..:(

Yeah, my chem teacher always says... you're a different person in the HSC Exam - the amount of silly mistakes you can make is unbelievable, due to nervousness.

I guess that might be a reason why HSC marks are aligned by board of studies, helping students do well.

How does that help? By pushing marks up or what?

I would have thought you'd be really confident since you're so good... although I'm not excellent compared to my whole cohort, in my class I was easily first so I was really confident and unstressed in every exam, and I don't see myself stressing in the HSC exam either. :)

I'm saying that perhaps the Board of Studies compensates for student's not doing as well as expected in the HSC exam due to exam stress etc etc, or a hard paper was set... therefore they align marks accordingly to the difficulty of the paper.

Before a week ago, I didn't even know that the aligning system existed. LOL
After finding out.. I was soo relieved.
