The technical skills shortage is not just due to a missing number of colleges, many people just don't think trades are a worthwhile pursuit.
If you go out to rural areas you will find many locations where employers are seeking apprentices and trainees and the teaching skill is there but they just don't have the number of motivated and interested people to take up the positions. We recently had a trades career expo in town and the turn out from industry and VET sectors was great, but we had hardly any interested students and parents come along.
