I just love how they are further marginalising their position through all this hooliganism.

It's perfect.

No. Comments like this are NOT ok. All my science subjects this week have been cancelled, and you shouldn't be having a massive go at arts/law people. They work hard and just because it's a different type of work to what you do, doesn't mean it's worthless.

The USyd arts faculty is the exact opposite of a joke. It's the largest and most diverse in the entire southern hemisphere and we need to support that if we want to keep its profile.
I didn't say anything about what them being "worthless" you somehow managed to conjure that up yourself.

All my lectures except MATH1001 and MATH1002 are going ahead, however, tutorials and labs/pracs are cancelled.

Amen!

I only picked USYD cause of their arts faculty. Everyone that says arts is easy, yea sure it is if you want to Ps and Cs just like any other faculty. And law? Have you seen their readings?!

Uh, no.

What do we want? Job security for our lecturers and them and not being threatened based purely on how many papers they've published since '09, even though they weren't told back then that publishing papers is how their value would be determined. Oh yeah, we also want this job security so they can go ahead and prepare/teach classes without the risk of being fired for not publishing because, you know, teaching takes an awful lot of time.

I was making a joke. I've only been at the university for three weeks, I have no opinion one way or the other for the strike.

Apathy is frustrating. You're at uni so I'm going to assume you have a brain that's decent. Ever considered looking into what's going on because it directly impacts you? Three weeks is plenty of time to have developed an understanding an opinion of what goes on in your world.

So pretty much all I saw was them blocking City Road. Was horribly disappointed.

Such obnoxious cunts, I thought disrupting everyone's learning was bad enough but apparently not.

I find it sad that many of these people have legitimate concerns about the firing of profs on publications, the fear of keeping a job meaning less dedication on teaching to the students and the erosion of tenancy by more casual positions etc. is totally overshadowed by behaviour that completely fails to endear and isolates people from their concerns. Such behaviour as risking safety by interrupting a chem demonstration and the like.

I think the EAG being associated in people's minds with the NTEU is nothing but harmful to the NTEU.

It's been hard as a first student imho to be starting university at this tumultuous time. Due to labs being cancelled and the like, it means my assessment schedule has changed, I have to rearrange pracs, miss out on specific lectures 100% relevant to my subject and watch a similar course code lecture recording etc. With all these things been cancelled, I'm still paying the same HECS bill. And many of us have worked hard at jobs to afford to move to university and afford our education. Set up a picket fence, but the actions in the lecture halls were OT.

What did they exactly think they were achieving by staging a sit-in and blocking a major road?

This I did not agree with. What if an ambulance or something had to come through?

Though apparently at UTS strike days, protestors have often blocked Broadway.

Wouldn't be surprised. There was something on today (National day of action?) with speeches by students association i think and a march to town hall and it was just a handful of people out in front of the tower when i walked past but i could see at least 5 cops standing around.
