The comments made on the corby case... like It's just so upsetting.

I used to look at muslims on the news, protesting and killing people because their people are locked up (some wrongfully), and think that they're crazy.
Now, we have 1 person (1 person that the Australian public really knows/cares about) and these sort of anti-indonesian, violent comments are made.

I partly blame the media for not fully explaining the situation, and pretty much ignoring the case against her.

it's really rotten the way the media has portrayed this whole schapelle thing. i think the way they over - dramatised it really brought their (the medias) credibility down - look at the ads there were on tv about the verdict. by making it look so sensationalised its almost like they degraded the seriousness of the situation. treating it calmly and rationally would have made a much better impact. the first time i saw the "verdict" ad i thought it was some new tv serires until i looked again. i cant say 100% whether she's innocent or not, but whatever she is the fact remains that the way the media has handled it has been pathetic.

ps i know that probably sounded a bit weird but words dont really express what im trying to say :)

Did anyone watch the thing on ACA with Schapelle's mother just now.... funny how simultaneously TT ran a story about what a "media beat up" the whole case was, even though TT has been a big contributor as well.

Channel 9 in particular should be bitchslapped for their coverage of this.... it is so so sooooooo blatantly biased. Don't even get me started on the worm special....

Im getting a group of like-minded teenagers together ASAP. We'll wait out events here for a while as Aust. is invaded/abandoned. Bring food supplies, guns...bullets, novels (to pass time), sunscreen and hat.
At night, we'll conduct raids on the military occupation force, in conjunction with NZ strategic support. Prepare self for spontaneous wild sex and sudden death of other members. Faith is necessary as our success is based on dumb luck, but think of the awe of the grown-ups when we prove how cool we are! Set aside a good 2-3yrs. Must be incoherant, fluttery and full of teen angst.
P.M me or John Marsden for more details.

Yes, she comes over as very crass, so does Mercedes. Schapelle is lucky that she comes over a little bit better on TV than the rest of her family....

She was very very stupid to sell her rights to Channel 9 in my opinion. She should be wanting to get her voice out across as many networks and news outlets as possible if she wants to keep the Australian public pushing the innocent line. Instead, other networks get bitter that Channel 9 got the exclusive, and run anti Corby stories like TT just did.

The interview on ACA wasn't even very good anyway.

Ron Bakir is shonky if you ask me.... can't wait until the whole story comes out about him.

Yea, I guess the critics were right, the only reason why (some) were ready to accept giving away $1Billion was because they wanted some sort of power over the indonesians...

So much for the "Caring nature" of Australians... What a lie.

I think it's really bad to say that you distrust all journalists after this. Maybe you should watch SBS and ABC news instead of the commercial networks. They were not engaged in this hype like the commercial channels... they reported the story, and that was that.

I also thought that the newspapers did an ok job with this, they had quite a variety of stories about the issue, and far more balanced coverage than the TV networks.

The commercial TV networks are the ones that have blown this up in to the frenzied state.

Also, if this story was set in Australia we would never have seen such a spectacle due to contempt laws etc. The free range the media seems to have in Indonesia (like being let in to the courtroom) has added to this being a media spectacle.

Don't forget those with a wireless!

I enjoyed the ABC's radio coverage throughout the entire affair. Between Hack and the regular current affairs programmes, most perspectives of some value were covered.

Maybe I didn't exactly enjoy it, but oh well.

It's not really the news that I'm mad at (tho as ash and others have pointed out, channel 9 has been disturbing throughout this), it's more just... the general australian public, at least those represented on the news (which I imagine could be the majority).

Yeah ABC radio is pretty good too.

I think a lot of people forget that commercial media is just like any other business.... it's based on supply and demand. If you don't want to watch news made to win ratings, then you have to switch to independent news sources. You can't really blame the commercial media for being popularist... for them news is a business, they have to make money.
