that's a tad melodramatic, justin simon
The kind of shit trade unions whinge about: http://bit.ly/ajAwr4

WorkChoices was overblown. If students lost penalty rates for working on the weekend, for example, that's because there's no competitive reason to pay somebody more at a time when he/she can more easily work.

But it's my weekend - it's my democratic RIGHT to have more money. And it is because we elected Rudd as PM pretty much to get rid of that abomination. Heh. And the fact that anyone could justify not paying someone for weekends and such because they can "easily work" shows the problem with that awful piece of legislation: We are humons and Howard treated us as dogs to serve the upper class.

You're a dog, Justin Simon. A dog.

See, I think that's the point where you lost what little credibility you had.

I may be a cancer to NCAP, but you're a cancer to society.

The weekends are sacred: They are a respite to the working week. You're a douche moll, I'm well aware, but even a mentally handicapped inbred moron like yourself can surely admit that we deserve more money to work during the days which should be reserved for rest and relaxation.

NEIN! ACH TOO LIBEN! DAS IST NOT YR RACHT IT IST YOUR RACHT TO VORK DURING ZE WEEKEND!

BTW, you took my quote out of context. It's our democratic right, GIVEN THAT WE VOTED FOR IT IN THE LAST ELECTION.

-Influential in pushing for increase in Asian language teaching in primary schools
-Depicts Australia as an intelligent nation... we have a big problem with dumb bogans controlling everything, opposing anything progressive and Howard just pandered to these dregs of society

---

Internet censorship is a non-issue... Conroy's a fool, Rudd knows this but also knows 80%+ of Australians are somewhat scared of the internet - this wont be a big part of the campaign, and probs will get dumped after being blocked by the senate
Now that stuff there is the good stuff that Kevin Rudd's done...
I'd certainly love to increase Asian language teaching in schools... but also other languages like Spanish as well, since it's one of the most spoken language of the world. I think that's a good thing that us Australians need to embrace onto ourselves. In the US, most of the citizens know at least two languages, most commonly, English and Spanish. Canadians know English and French.. Chinese in the mainland has to learn their own Chinese and another second language...

Yeah I reckon Australia should be seen as a more intellectual country rather than one that's not... imo.

At internet censorship, pshht Stephen Conroy would have his desires smashed already; it won't happen. Yet at the same time Rudd wants to increase internet speeds, and knows that censorship won't happen anyway, since its a slowdown to the internet speed...

I don't really think giving university students extra money will also help them get a better education. I mean I appreciate the extra money, but really has anyone who has a prominent position in government been into a university in the last 5 years? University students could do with some extra money, but first they need Alchoholics Anonymous. Goon sales are going to go through the roof in the next few weeks with this 650 dollar scholarship.
Wouldn't help them to get a better education but more like helping them out with their daily lives in the university campus and abroad?

Oh please. Quit bitching about nothing. No-one's forcing you to work on the weekend. Any work you do then is taken voluntarily, and you will be reimbursed with perfectly decent wages. If you don't want to work for those wages get some more human capital and a better bargaining position or find a new job. If no-one is willing to work without weekend loading, then employers will be forced to bring it back anyway. And if they are willing, then obviously they want the job more than you and hence should get it.
Furthermore, have you considered that, because they are not paying 50% extra for the two days of the weekend that they can now afford to give you about 15% extra on every single day of the week?

BTW, you took my quote out of context. It's our democratic right, GIVEN THAT WE VOTED FOR IT IN THE LAST ELECTION.
Well in that case it's also your democratic right to be unemployed.

Also, If you think I'm a right-wing facist, you evidentally haven't listened to jennyfromdablock, Sylvester and Nolan talk about politics and economics. I'm a fucking socialist compared to them.

Yeah I was answering another post, but it's not worth the economic burden anyway as most university students don't really deserve or need the extra money. University students are generally drama queens when it comes to money. If university students were really struggling that much I wouldn't hear so many people talking about how much they drank the night before neither would I see as many people smoking. Only a tiny percentage of people would be unable to survive as a university student due to financial problems. The real issue is Generation Y = greedy consumers.

Cool sweeping generalisations based on tenuous anecdotal evidence bro.

Also, "greedy consumers", what does that even mean? If you mean they consume beyond their means and don't save adequately... It's learned behaviour. Learned behaviour from their baby boomer parents who have made living beyond their means fashionable.

Yeah I'm making sweeping generalisations based on university students that I know and the culture that surrounds universities. I'd still say most university students are completely capable of surviving on the money they are already getting as most university students I know spend a considerable amount of money on alcohol and smokes.

I have no real proof of this, but university events often imply that a large portion of students spend a lot of their money on alcohol. Also I could stalk a number of my facebook friends who are at universites all over Australia and I would find quite a number of photos of them looking pretty drunk at different times. A study conducted at the University of Canberra found that out of 1,151 students 86% of those surveyed were drinkers and half of those drank at hazardous levels. A study conducted by New Scientist found that more than a third of Australian university students are drinking to levels which are risking permanent brain damage. How many friends do you have that drink and how many friends do you have that don't?

Yes, I never said it wasn't learned behavior or that it was. I think it's pretty evident just by looking at society that Generation Y is one that is developing some unhealthy spending habits. I know quite a few people my age who have already had to declare bankrupt due to spending habits. I don't know maybe it's just the people I know but I'm a bit suspicious stuff like this is happening all over Australia . . . . . . .
