Ew. Screw forcing yourself. Just read the graphic novel version (like I did for Hamlet) or get a satirical remake (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, anyone?)

that is an excellent book

down to the last 20 pages or so of 'the shining' - stephen king
loving/loved it lots

quite different to stanley kubrick's film starring jack nicholson
generally the books are better when it comes to book vs. film
but kubrick being the legend that he is did a pretty good job...and the film has become iconic in itself.

ahhh, it takes me back to the days of when i used to read goosebumps
