Probably not. But accusations of US stealing oil through some magical pipelines are even more ridiculous. Evidence please? How much oil is there in Afghanistan anyway?

lmao you really think they weren't there to take down osama and his taliban krew, disrupt al quidea, get some revenge and while they're at it make the lives of the afghani's better keeping them from turning to terrorism themselves?

cuz like... just going there for oil seems kinda stupid to me.. like invading afghanistan for oil?
Supporting your post:

Not doing something about the region is a safety issue for the US, as S11 proved. Not necessarily saying that what they are doing now is making the region safer, at least in the short term.

In a way yes, the United states decided it wants to crack down on terrorist breeding holes around the world... and while at the moment alot of terrorists are being born, in the future in iraq when they realise their quality of life has gone up (which most have), they will thank the americans and there will be less terrorists....

at least i believe that's their rational.

Among the many advantages of the Afghanistan route, according to Mr. Todor, is that it would terminate in the Arabian Sea, which is much closer than the Persian Gulf or northern China to key Asian markets. The pipeline becomes crucial for U.S. oil giants because it would allow them to sell their oil in an expanding and highly prospective Asian market. The profits here are viewed to be substantially higher than in the European market. But, the construction of this promising route can only begin if and when an internationally recognised Government is formed in Afghanistan.
It is chilling to realise that it is such cold-blooded pursuit of economic interests and profits that defines U.S. maneouvres in the region and its attacks on Afghanistan. That all this should happen in the name of grieving the death of nearly 7000 innocent American lives is plain cruelty. The world today is being asked to side with the U.S. in a fight against global terrorism. This is only a cover. The world is being asked today, in reality, to side with the U.S. as it seeks to strengthen its economic hegemony. This is neither acceptable nor will be allowed. We must forge together to state that we are neither with the terrorists nor with the U.S

that seems to pretty much support what i was saying... the US wants a more stable oil market, and a degree of control.
It doesn't mean 'ownership', it just means they don't want oil in the hands of a madman that could cut off supplies and cause chaos all around the world including in america.

Are you saying the sole reason Australia pitched in for East Timor is oil?

Id just like to interject here and say that arguing on the internet is pointless. I still do it though because its fun and stimulating.

I genuinely feel that baring a civil war(which is unlikely) if they do a mass survey in iraq say in 2008 the majority will say their life is better now after the war.
Yeh its just rocking there, you know families torn apart, thousands dead. I'll take your word for it though. If you say they think life is better then it must be. I mean thats what Ann Sanders told you right? or was it Jessica Rowe?
