i need an estimate of the rankings in my subjects to achieve a UAI of 96.95.

i need to set goals..could anyone give me an estimate of how my rankings should be?

My subjects are:

English Advanced= /145

Mathematics= /150

Biology= / 63

Economics= /60

Ancient history= /47

and i do chemistry but i;m thinking of dropping it......so.......i don't really mind the ranking of Chemistry.

Is your desired course Physiotherapy at USYD? It seems like it.

Anyway back to the topic: You will need to be placed about top 20% at your school to achieive that UAI. My view may appear to be subjective in a large sense but I base my estimation on the fact that some schools ranked about 80 produce 30 to 40% getting over 90 UAI.

Good luck.

My estimates are based on previous results from past students (i've gathered around 50-60 ex HSC students and their marks/UAI).

Also the statistics provided by my school (such a top 100 studnets in '06 got 90+ UAI) and you can more or less estimate from there.

what but his in a school ranked around 87 how come?

the school i applied for is in the 40-50s and i'm currently dux with first in almost all of my subjects.

if i make it into this school in the 40s to 50s. and i know i probably wouldn't be coming in the top 20 at the new school. and u say to get a UAI of 96.95 the OP needs top 20 in maths and english, and top 10 for the other subjects. really made me think...

if i'm dux of the school im at now and continue here i might be better off. since we can get UAIs of 98s, 99

damn so confused

Hi, modesty is a part of my name too! :mad1:

Anyway... from my non-expert perspective, if you are dux of an 87th school you're probably going to end up with a UAI only a very small amount shy of 100.

I also have a feeling that if the school you are moving to isn't even half of what your current school is in rankings then you're not suddenly going to drop off the pace by 20 positions in each subject.

Your cohort may push you up.

Ok, first of all, what's a cohort?

Second of all, how does it affect YOUR individual mark?

So, in my school which is ranked 50 (give or take), what UAI should I expect if I'm somewhere in the middle of the grade in terms of ranks?

I don't think it does affect your individual mark. It's only used to estimate your UAI - which is your rank in the state obviously. From what I gather, people use a combination of school rank and the individual's ranks to guess UAI. Someone who is dux of a rank 400 school is likely to get a lower UAI than the dux of James Ruse.

Sorry if I'm completely wrong!

They MAY influence your result depending on your rank.

Let's say you are ranked 1st in the year. In that particular case, you won't be affected by your cohort. However, if you are ranked 2nd, you are potentially affected by the person who is in front of you (i.e. the top person). Basically, you are influenced by those who are ranked higher than you are.
