So what did you guys want to be 'when you grew up' compared to what you want to do now, that you've grown older? Well I wanted to be a magician (coz firefighters and policemen were too mainstream ) and now that i'm older i want to be an architect. What about you?

I've had many different passions whilst growing up (the world is interesting) but I am now starting to zone in on engineering (computer). I remember in grade 4, we were required to pick an occupation off the blackboard along with another student. We then had to prepare a "speech" as to why (the other students) would pick us for that job as if in an interview. When it came to my turn (scientist), I said to the class "I'd make a great scientist - (drastic pause) - and I never make mistakes" and I got all the class votes except for 1. Funny :') ...Perhaps that day was like extreme foreshadowing.

Now: Historian/Scholar, Musician (a very different sort to what I wanted to be back then) or a Musicologist.

Initially I was interested by engineering because the idea of getting to "build" things sounded like fun (this would have been when I was maybe 12?). Ended up shifting my interest towards commerce because of the ambition to make money (when I was 14/15 years old).

In the end, I went for my current degree because I enjoyed economics and geography during high school and I wanted a degree which could combine the two. I could have done a B. Econ/B. Sci but I found the prospect of doing a degree which somewhat combines the two fields together into one would be a better fit.

As I'm graduating at the end of this year, I'm actively job hunting at the moment. I've got one on a government role as I think policy development is most likely my forte but I'm also interested in consulting because I would get to work with an array of clients to solve a diverse range of problems. In the end, I'll only be able to judge whether I'm pleased with a role when I actually have one but I know that I made a good choice picking this degree as it has really aligned with my interests and my academic strengths.

I thought about a lot of jobs growing up things like police officer, doctor, and stuff like that always floated around when i was young an idealistic.
When I first dealt with any form of police that was immediately off the list. Cops are called pigs for a reason.

Then it shifted to lawyer or something because I had a flair for thinking on my feet and debating, BUT I was mainly suggested this by other people and thought "Yeah, I'd be good at that."
When it came down to it law seemed silly, and selfish.
Most lawyers are only out to make money for themselves, not uphold the law.

Then I thought about being a vet.
I always liked animals and stuff but I thought maybe vet would be a bit like an animal daycare more than anything, especially in a suburban setting, and most of the time you're just putting animals down.

This lead me back to medicine.
Being a physician you get to have the idealistic view of helping people along with the realism that some people are going to die, but you can do a lot more for people than vets can do for animals, and currently you aren't involved in ~putting people down~ but rather making life as good for people as possible, prolonging it, or making sure someone's death is dignified and painless (in the case of palliative care).

So medicine it was.

(There were a few others on the side like engineer (because I'm a really good ~thinker~ and problem solver) and teacher (because I'm good at school and can probs make others good at school) but they both bore me)

Also, since I've had 'prescribed glasses' since Year 2, I used to have interests for optometry.

Becoming an optometrist perhaps.

Fast forward to late high school years, I realised I wanted to pursue Commerce in university - since I liked Year 9-10 Commerce, Year 11-12 Business Studies and Economics.

Not sure still though - whether its going to be accounting, finance or marketing...

Law is another career interest as well nowadays but not as dominant as my interest for Comm.

Maybe I could be a marketing manager/director at a big company one day?
