I'm going to ANU, I got B commerce/B laws as well.
Who went to PEA day yesterday? I thought it was pretty good except I missed out on the eco/commerce faculty tour.

I think meeting up with other BOS members is a good idea. I'm going to Canberra alone as well and I was pretty intimidated by all those new undergrads that were already friends from highschool. The socialist alternative dudes were pretty cool though.

Also, I just found out I got accepted into B & G, which was a big relief because I thought they completely forgot about me since they never rang or contacted my referees. I was setting myself up to find a room on the fringes of the ACT since everwhere from inside Phillip to Downer has pretty much no vacancies.

Does anyone else plan on working part time this year? I will really need to get a job since my parents are paying for all my HECS and accommodation and that leaves nothing for me to live on.

Well, that's pretty much all I have to say about my big adventure to Canberra. Good luck for this year at uni everyone!

Just saw your post 2003... great to know someone who is doing the exact same course! Do you know what major(s) you are going to do for commerce? I know we don't have to pick until second semester... but I was thinking of maybe doing a double major in marketing and management. Only bummer is it means I can't do any subjects from international business, but I really like the sound of all the subjects in those majors and I can't just pick a few :p

I worked casual during yr 11 and 12 for extra $$ and will probably do the same in uni... I am waiting to hear if I got a $10000 * 5 years scholarship, but will probably still work even if I get this...

When I went for a campus tour the student that took me said you can get cushy administrative jobs on campus that pay about $17 an hour, just stuffing envelopes ect. They don't really advertise them but you just ask as many places as you can if they need anyone, and hope your at the right place at the right time...

I was talking to the guys at the commrce stall and they told me that most of my subjects will be picked for me in the first year so Im not really thinking about it too much yet. I always thought I was going to major in accounting when I chose commerce but then I got to law (completely unexpected) so now I'm thinking of doing something else.
I havent really looked into my course yet actually, I'm just happy I got into it.

Yeah I have the faculty of law and commerce books here. Program structure is you have no choice in semester one, but have to choose commerce electives from semeter two onwards (you get to choose one course which is the introduction to your major, and then any other course, though because I am doing a double major I have to choose the introduction to both majors). You don't get to choose any law electives until 3rd year, so I wouldn't bother thinking about those yet...

this is a reply from ages back.. sorry to divert the conversation!
That wasnt my team you went again Ribbon... it was at some western region comp in orange, which also doubled as a debating workshop.. it was the year below me that you went against... the only reason I remember Narromine is afterwards.. in maccas.. you guys were sitting behind us and we were yelling out to you guys.. but then you all got embarressed. ohwell..

the whole accepting thing is stuffed! i only just got my uac offer in the mail today. and havent even got the anu pack yet.. and its apparently due on friday!! stuffed..

and also.. when you go to register your enrolment.. you dont need your parents around do you? e.g. there is no need for them, and the student can do it by themselves?

at uni your parents are no longer nessary, unless you are using thier credit card for something :) I agree about how stuffed the acceotance is, I have REALLY slow post from here so have to send my acceptance by express to get it thier by friday :p I also havnm't got the anu pack yet... you can d/l the info in a pdf from anu.edu.au but it doesn't give you your uni id number, which you need to pay the general services fee ($210). The info on the pack says you have to pay the fee before you send back the acceptance of enrollment thing (I am still sending it today though, and will ring the uni if I still don't get the pack tommorrow)... but they ask you to pay using b-pay, which takes a few days to go through anyway???

also the uac letter sayd you will get the pack no later than 8 days, but we've only got 4 days to accept the offer !

ON a side note, my enrollment day is my 18th birthday, so it looks like going out to the pub with my friends on the friday night it out :(

oh and I don't remember the thing in maccas... but i'll take your word for it, we were probably embarrassed... is st stanuslaws (I can't remember how to spell it) in bathurst? I remmeber every time we went debating the girls in my team would go on about how hot the stanis guys were (I had a b/f so I appretiated the guys quitely instead :)

cough... no i wasnt from stannies... boys catholic school... not me... naa.. Bathurst High.. ohwell...

ahhh... this is very stressful this accepting thing. we have to send a uac slip in, pay 210 bucks and send away an enrolment form ... all before friday... im going to lose hair over this.

i didn't know we had to send away the enrollment form? i thought we handed it in on enrollment day?

edit: just checked and the gsf doesn't have to bge paid until 2 working days before your enrollment date, and you have to take the completed enrollment form to enrollment day.

so all that needs to be done by friday is sending your little slip...

s'ok... has anyone tried doing thier timetable on the anu site? I am confused about some of it, but mostly it seems like a good idea. I am aiming to get 4 days of uni so I can work on the 5th day and have the weekend off.

still havn't managed to do it (mainly cos I havn't figured out what the go it with all the lecture groups on there)... anyone else figured this thing out?

i looked at it... and stuff.. but .. all the numbers and suffixes and bla bla bla.. looks very confusing and duanting and stuff... you dont have to have it done by enrolment do you? like.. you can fix it up during o week yeah? in which case you can get 2nd years or whatever to help

i'm pretty sure you have to send in that bottom half of the uac offer letter because it says so in that huuuuuge pdf file that's linked on the offers page. i linked it below in case you didn't see it

http://www.anu.edu.au/sas/admissions/uac/ug/2004UGLocalEnrol.pdf

i rang up the admissions office today and they said it was fine to fax the slip through, which is a much nicer and easier alternative

their phone number is (02) 6125 5594 or (02) 6125 3046
fax number is: (02) 6125 0751

that said, does anyone know how to check whether they accepted your acceptance :)P)? i'm just really paranoid about this lately

dissident that what I meant by 'sending in your little slip'

BTW - way to go on your first post :) What course are you doing?

and matt I think the timetable has to be finilised either at enrollement or before the hecs census date (early march?)

enrolment typically ends up being long and protracted, waiting in lines for people to pick and assign all their classes, asking questions and stuff

on a side note, i'm kind of freaked out at the prospect of being in a completely different city with different new people. whereabouts is everyone else coming from?

ah dissident we all know the feeling! I don't think any of us in this thread so far actually come from canberra... I am from Narromine (small, rural NSW town) and Matt (Bolonski) is from Bathurst (bigger, closer to syd but still considered fairly rural) don't know about strawberry and blah says she (they havn't said yet?) but I get the impression they are out of towners as well...
