I do not think they were designed to replace CD's:). They were more designed as a portable option to fit in your pocket:).

Huy is correct here again:). MiniDisc's were in fact designed to replace cassettes:).

LP4 does not sound good enough for me though:). I think LP4 was designed for recording class lectures with a microphone:).

Probably, good enough for me, and besides recording at LP4, the battery life last way longer than SP

minidisc is useless!!

Reasons:
1. they are fatter than mp3 players
2. they store less stuff compared to mp3 players
3. their batteries don't last as long as mp3 players
4. they are more expensive compared to mp3 players

a solid state mp3 player is much better than any minidisc player.

and if you have lots of money to spend get an ipod

I'd have to disagree with you

1) Yes, but not that fat

2) 4CD's isn't sufficient? I think it should suffice for now

3) Yeah umm right... some mp3 players require AAA, and they cost heaps, and some have inbuilt batteries, which is gay as well, the MD's battery life is 10 times as better than a mp3 player no joke

4) Yeah i guess so, but there discs are cheap, think about it 5 Bucks for a 74 min, which can store 4 cds, and they do look rather stylish. And you got your typical 64 MB Inbuilt memory for your mp3 player at about 300 For an alright one, then you want to fit more songs, ok here comes the memory card, another 64 mb would cost you around 90 - 120, depending what mp3 player it is, and it all accumulates, while if you get the NET MD, for roughly around 530 Bucks, you got yourself a good looking system, and the media is cheaper than purchasing memory.

I'd also like to add a point is, can a mp3 player, to recordings using a mic like MD's can? Did you also realise, your limited in Bitrate quality for mp3 players, to upload to, while the MD has a variety.

Oh well just my 2 cents.

I dont own an MD, so i can't refute anything from my own point of view, but I guess Winston has more to say about it than I do.

I agree with the iPod though :) :)

LOL i know... but don't tell me you don't love apple hardware.

G4 powerbooks, ibooks even, imacs (maybe not imacs as much), G5 powermacs and the ipod range.

im not saying "apple is the best, dont buy anything else"
it's just that i appreciate hardware/innovation and great design
:)

i would love to own an ipod
but i have my eyes set on the PowerBook G4 for university.
if im low on the finances, then i'll ask for an iBook (this is in 2nd or even 3rd year uni if i can save that much)

:)

you're missing out Winston!! :)

I've used:
iBook 12.1"
iMac (G3 and G4 15" and 17")
PowerMac G4 (Graphite)
PowerMac G3 (Greeny one)

I haven't 'seen' a PowerBook in real life, nor have I ever used one, but I would imagine it's similar to the iBook (but better ;))

I want to play around with an iPod though... :)

LOL.
I'm not loaded (much? just kidding...)

I only got:

$50 from dad
$700 17" LCD from mum
A keychain from Herrick with "H" on it (for Huy), and some engraving work on it with a b'day msg.

That's it... I don't get anything for xmas, chinese new year's or anything.

Which is why I'm saving for the PowerBook G4.
(I will spend my money on clothes or something though LOL... I can never save more than one or two hundred, before I have an urge to spend)

I agree with you Winston on alot of points. Having more than 40-50 songs on a portable player is rather annoying, especially considering if you wish to listen to a certain song on a mp3 player which is loaded w/ hundreds of songs.

Sony's MD batteries (at least on my MD) is rated at 50+ hours. And it has the add on AA battery pack thing :)

As far as price goes, it really depends on what type of player I'd say. Some mp3 players are outrageously priced, and they often come with dodgy headphones/earphones. You can't beat Sony earphones IMO :p Still, I want a Sony Memory Stick player :(
