^As mentioned before, placeholder prices. When they add a game to the database, they have to put some price in, usually higher than what the final cost will be (so customers can't get pissed off that their preordered game just went up in cost).

The four games you got were Zelda, Rayman, Need for Speed Carbon and Open Season. Good value if you wanted all of those titles.

Why is there a lack of specs available for the wii? Nintendo has named the components, but hasn't released any figures (ie, ghz of cpu, mhz of gpu, mb of ram, etc).
yes they have. like last month i think

"Technical Breakdown
The Wii system has been designed to be "small, quiet and affordable," according to Nintendo. The machine, available at launch in glossy white, is just 8.5 inches long, 6 inches wide and less than two inches thick (the exact dimensions are 157mm x 215.4mm x 44mm.) The Big N is fond of comparing the system to the size of roughly three stacked DVDs. Wii can be placed horizontally or vertically. The console is roughly twice as powerful as a GameCube, putting it in horsepower territory beyond Xbox, but well shy of Xbox 360. Tech specs do not tell the whole story, which is probably why Nintendo itself has chosen not to provide intricate breakdowns for Wii's CPU and GPU. Bearing that in mind, here's everything we know about the console's internal makeup:

729 MHz IBM PowerPC "Broadway" CPU 243 MHz ATI "Hollywood" GPU
24MBs "main" 1T-SRAM 64MBs other 1T-SRAM
512MBs internal flash memory 3MBs texture memory on GPU
Built-in 802.11b/g Wi-Fi capability One SD memory card bay
AV multi-port: S-video, composite, component Analog (left/right) audio / DPLII
Four GameCube controller ports Two GameCube Memory Pak slots
Two USB 2.0 ports Compatible with up to four wireless Wii-motes
Self-loading media drive Accepts 12cm Wii and 8cm GCN discs; no DVD movies"

It blends a lot of different playing styles that people enjoy. Fighting, puzzle solving, minigames and side quests, with a little story that doesn't make you think too much. Fun mix.

heh, those are shocking stories collin. yeah, i realise the fact that most people just make shit up about computers, its a shame.

even though i know a fuckload, i've never had a customer that could take me on, even the IT business professionals, to be honest, the average consumer doesnt know enough to tell whether im bullshitting or not.

ah well, ill try and sell plasma's more often.

how much comission do you get?
That's precisely the point which gets to me. That is, the sales people understand the fact that most consumers won't have a clue if you bullshit to them, so many do just that (either because they know that or because they actually don't know what they're talking about). Hence, I try to distance myself from using the 'I sell these' lines since it's not a position I'm overly proud of.

You work at JB-Hifi Warringah Mall right? I wouldn't mind a sales job somewhere like that. The mall is essentially a major shopping hub for the residential areas of the Northern Beaches, whereas my North Sydney position attracts mostly professionals (since it's smack bang in the middle of a CBD). Where I work, it's pretty difficult to bullshit anything, unless your target customer was a 40 year old housewife, or something. Add-on sales like extended warranties are more difficult to sell too.

But I think it's time I start looking for more specialised work soon. My sales department consists of anything that's defined as a 'business machine', but my main interests are PC hardware and cameras. So talking to customers about laptops and such are fine and dandy, but I've also gotta constantly update my knowledge on items such as labelling machines. As for the commission Q, I don't get commission. I would need to transfer to a store with a Techworks department to be eligible for commission. One such example is the Dee Why Supastore, but there are so many dodgy cunts who work there.

But to be honest I was so enthusiast about sales when I first got into it.. but now it's just another ordinary job. I know alot about the areas I specialise in, and because there's budget quotas, I'm essentially forced to bullshit to sell things. That's just not something I like doing.

"Wow the new 10 megapixel IXUS! I wanna get a camera for my son's big game on the weekend - this is good right?"

I feel inclined to respond.. "Yeah, except for the Q of whether or not these pussy-sized P&S sensors can actually handle 10MP resolutions well and that the manual setting doesn't actually boast any real options for playing around with the shutter speed or aperture.. which would just be great for action shots."

But usually end up more with a grudging "Yeah, they're great cameras.", which would of course promote a sale.

I need to find myself a consultant position.

i know exactly what your talking about, ive talked people out of buying things because they're so misguided, i havent had to bullshit yet, which is good, but yeah, i have budgets too.

like with macs we have, customer - "those are good prices, cheaper than the macstore!" (they are only the core1 duos, which are older), but yeah.. i told them, unlike other salesppls

but my selling style is building honesty, rapport, and it does pay off most of the time.
if you dont get comission i can see why youd think your job is pretty crap,
whats a techworks department?

fuck labelling machines and printers. I find that someone will umm and arr about buying a printer longer than a computer. i avoid them when i can

suer the city might be harder, but we get the professional types too. anywhere is harder than out west, paramatta etc. ppl out there arent so bright..

i just like the fact that at my work, we get to do our own deals, own discounts, we get access to all the prices, and can handle everything on our own without a manager. id try and change if i were you

One month to go!

http://www.nintendo.com.au/nintendo/news/index.php

Additional Wii Remote controllers will sell for SRP$A69.95. Accessories such as the Nunchuk controller and the Classic controller will be available for SRP$A29.95
$100 for every extra remote? ($70 for remote, $30 for nunchucks)
Plus you may need to pick up some Classic controllers as well if you want to play the older games?

Christ.

If you've got a Cube, you can use its controllers for Virtual Console games.
Also, get Wii Play if you're looking into a second controller. $79.95 for a game packed in with a remote, sort of like Wii Sports 2.

Is the Wii expensive, considering it's specs in comparison to the 360, which at $200 extra a lot more powerful?

Yeah well is it true Microsoft and Sony are selling their hardware at a loss, attempting to make it up on games? I don't think it's a mistake for Nintendo to make a profit. If it helps them live on as long as possible, remaining competitive, then I support it.
And of course the Wii will drop to $300 or less within a year, the 360 came out in march at $699 remember.

Well if the Wii flops you still have the handhelds to consider. I don't think anyone can touch them in that arena.

It won't flop; got too big a fanbase behind it. It might not take the world by storm as Nintendo might want you to believe, but they'll still make money off it.

This is true. Even the Cube made a profit.

the only thing that disappoints me with the wii is the cost of the controller and attatchments.

$70 for the wiimote.

then $30 for the nunchuck thing.

if i want 4 of them thats $400.

wii isn't as cheap as they're making it out to be.

I don't think I have any more interest in the Wii whatsoever anymore. Can just see myself getting tired of the controller.

My interest now lies in the 360

Played it at chatswood tonight.
I really enjoyed it. Bowling and tennis on Wii Sports are great.
No problems with the sensitivity except for Wii Play which was kinda shit anyway.

I'm buying it for the games, I don't give a shit about graphics or frame rate etc.
Give me the new Zelda over....I don't even know any 360 games

I can't bloody wait :D I've got a 360, but this will be a good break from it. I just love the idea of the controller - just read a preview of madden 07, and you actually have to make a passing motion to pass the ball.
