They both have a crappy voice. But in terms of image. Shannon has got the "Australian look" to represent Australia.

That's why it's MORE "MEEP" with Kelly Vs Guy.

I would hate for that image to be portrayed to international audiences. Do we really want to be seen like that? Guy embodies the multicultural aspect of australia which is what i believe makes the country great and what we should be projecting to the world.

Like it or not, Shannon is a better representation of Australia. (country look or whatever).

The difference is that america has pretty much already cemented its image in the eyes of the world, australia on the other hand hasn't had nearly that amount of exposure. All i'm saying is that i believe guy to be a better representation of australia (and of course that's only my opinion).

What difference does it make? Soon or later, Australia is going to be viewed the same. Due to globalisation and American's capitalist commercialism already running wild, our image cannot possibly be differentiated with America's image.

Be realistic, if u take shannon to world idol bcuz of his 'Australian Image', who's gonna vote 4 him?, NO ONE, the world wont vote 4 him bcuz he's a typical aussie, they dont give a shit bout that, in fact they'll prolly be against him bcuz he's more "aussie" than guy. the reason being is politics, australia hasn't got a good humanitarian reputation due to the asylum seekers.
so politics can have a major role.
and so what if shannon is more aussie, guy was born in malaysia and he represents the multiculturalism of australia, and i think our multiculturalism is a far better representation of australia

It's nice knowing that Guy and Sh. r such good friends.
They r from diff places and represent two sides of Australia coming together.........I don't really mind who actually wins tho I'm expecting Guy. I would personally prefer Cosima.....well, I'm a Cosima supporter to the end!

I dont think anyone will care about politics...people will just care that he will seem like some bogan in a white singlet, singing some Australiana rock song that will not translate at all.
His "typical aussie bloke" image is appealing in Australia, but people won't get it overseas.

However-after seeing Sundays show, I am now like 90% sure that Shannon is gonna win, which will be a BIG disappointment. :(

politics have great impact on music industry, just watch eurovision, neighbouring countries fully support each other e.g Malta and Greece , the countires which is not so close never support one another e.g scottland and ukraine, no matter how good the singer is.
i hope shannon will make it.

Some previous posts here about which winner best represents Australia are interesting, legitimate, and perhaps even valuable in bringing concepts of Australian national identity into the fore. However this whole World Idol thing has added such a problematic dimension to these discussions of Australian identity. Who will be less Meep when confronted with Kelly Clarkson? How will Shannons typical image translate to overseas audiences? Or will Guys multiculturalism be rejected as an image of Australia?
I call it a touch of the Our Nicoles, where we claim ownership celebrities such as Nicole Kidman, Megan Gale and Russell Crowe as quintessentially Australian only once they have been embraced overseas. Our Australian national identity should be able to exist on its own accord, without having to be validated by America.

My point exactly, this years eurovision england got the lowest votes, bcuz of their involvement in the war in iraq
So dont say politics has nuffin to do wit it, it does have an impact

i don't think shannon will be bad as he is typically aussie, and i don't think guy will be rejected as he is malaysian background, we are aussie and that's what our country is like

simple, guy has the best voice, shannon's voice is not as good, guy can dance, has a personality, shannon has a personality but cannot dance, hence him on the stage would be a slight embarassment

shannon would have done a lot better at world idol, realistically, when people first meet a singer they look at them, the music industry, much to my disapointment is very commercial, and appearance based, and i think guy is so popular in Australia because people have grown to like him over time, not just had him shoved in their faces with a sign saying "buy my music" hanging around his neck.
I think that...hmm do they choose a winner at world idol, or do they just all sing? well if they choose a winner i think it will be kelly clarkson, or Alexander (from germany). I saw him sing when i was there...so cool...
anyways, thats my 2 cents worth

really i think its good guy won it shows that Australia is growing up and forging our own identity
shannon would have to represent the traditional face of Australia - rugged bush larrikin 'workin class man' the kind of image that through most of the last century prevailed. But that image just isn't an accurate representation of australia in 2003 we have became a more diverse and multi-ethnic country
the fact that guy won Australian idol is indicative of our changing nation and especially our generations willingness to embrace our multicultural society. Difference is being tolerated and accepted even embraced and i think this shows Australia's capacity as a nation to have our own identity separate from the globalised american world.

in regards to guy at world idol i think hes an awesome representative for our country and perhaps his talent and personality will get him further than we all expect.
i say go guy you champ stick it up all those other world idols - coz thats what im talkin BOUT!
