Ohh holy crap the worst English Novel was either EMMA or Shackelton . So bad, so bad.....

Best: Darren shan series, great great books.

Worst: Tough one. A Midsummer Night's Dream was awful but not technically a book as such, probably To Kill a Mockingbird

I found TKAM awful because:

• The teacher made us read it as a class (This was in Year 9 btw)
• The people reading can't pronounce words with more than 2 syllables
• The teacher stopped us every four lines just to analyse them
• The teacher gave us ridiculous amounts of questions
• The book as a whole, while probing, was boring for an all boys school in Year 9.

I found TKAM awful because:

Read it out of those circumstances. I can assure you it's very good.

aaaaaaanddd the book was awful because every time I read it in my head, I had an urge to read it in a deep-southern accent.

Best: Excluding the ones that I got to choose as free choice hmmmmm If we're counting plays, The Importance of Being Earnest if not, probs TO Kill a Mockingbird though I had read it a few years before we did it in school.

Worst: So hard to pick! I think Lobster Boy is prob the epitome of worst English novel though.

Eucalpytus, by Murray Bail (by lightyears the worst, even more boring than Aunt Fay's lectures)

Wow. Really? Most of the people I know hate it. I didn't mind it. My english teacher adores it.

Lord of the Flies? Ohh, I remember I read that - was a bit unsure of it but eventually liked it.

And you read If on a winter's night a traveller? NICE. Fantastic book. What did you read that for? Extension 1 English, I suppose? You're doing Textual Dynamics?

Midsummer Night's Dream was okay... for example, a friend in the class got nicknamed Oberon for the rest of the year, iirc. That was pretty cool.

I also believe we had 'puck you' jokes. Or maybe that's just my imagination.

Yup! I'm currently doing engX1 TD unit and I'm loving it!
I'm guessing you did this too for your HSC as well?

At first when we just started the course and viewed Orlando film I was soo confused as to what in the world was going on, but all thanks to my wonderful teacher who spoonfeeds us I think I've got a firm grasp of the ideas behind this course. FLW was a hectic read but very interesting once explained (I actually wouldn't mind giving it another go)..So yeah starting IOAWNAT after these holidays and can't wait! (and you just reminded me that Marcovaldo-same author was also one of my favourite texts)

Tbh I actually find X1 so much easier to gain marks/understand than Advanced... weirdhuh
