Hey guys, I've recieved my UAI and very disappointed.

MY Hsc marks were:
Bussiness Std - 68 (Band
English Standard - 59
Mathematics - 57
Legal STudies - 74
Senior Science - 73
SOR 1U - 37/50

In which i received a UAI of 41.35

Is this correct? or did they make an error?

That does sound incorrect. Yes, the UAI is a rank, not a mark, but even so, those marks seem to high to be 41.35. I would have guessed mid 60's. Definitely inquire about that.

my uai was 94.05

but sam predicted it as 95.25 and i neeeeeeeeed that
is there something wrong with the usi calculation??? argh i wish i didnt stuff up modern hist :( my internal was a band 6

also i did business studies accelerated... im assuming UAC forgot to calculate it cause wen i removed business from the SAM estimator... it was much closer to my UAI of 94.05

Fuck, its such a small margin as well... check out alternative entry schemes at the uni you want to go to, some courses will allow people in if they did very well in a particular subject (which is what the uni course is based on, eg: maths) but didnt have a high enough UAI to get in (cuz they did badly in some random course with no relevance to the intended uni course, eg: modern history)

You should realise by now that UAI is not just the average mark of your HSC results. There are much more that come into that. UAI is not only determined by your HSC results for each course but also the scaling of each course.

I don't think it was unfair for the OP seeing that his subjects possess quite low scaling in general. However, if he achieved high results in those subjects, he would have been less severely affected by the scaling of each subject.

Well, I got these

Eng std 75
Mathematics 70
Senior Science 80
Visual art 79
Info tech(vet) 75

I was very happy when sam calculated that I got 62.70, but then my uai was 55.95

I wanted 60 uai, guess I'm just not good enough.

Unfortunately, the scaling affected you in great deals.

The higher mark you get in the course generally is entailed with benefits that scaling gotta offer (e.g. 49.5 in modern = 50/50)

Excuse some choice of vocab in my post such as "benefits"

But three were in the 70's, and the other three weren't fails. It just seems odd to me.

40%+ of students (probably more actually) get band 3 or higher.

In most subjects 70% or so got 70+ in each subject so getting low 70s or less will put you in the lower third of each course which results in a UAI in the 40s particularly when you include that some of the subjects are low scaling subjects as well which automatically brings down their value.

I think SAM is just outdated using the 2005 data. Use 2007 Einstein it's more accurate.

SAM (2005) prediction: 95.7

Einstein (2007) prediction: 96.15

Actual UAI (2008): 96.05

It's just old data I think
